In this vital role you will be a part of our Discovery Technologies team at Amgen Research Thousand Oaks CA.

We are seeking a motivated and talented Automation Engineer to join our early drug discovery effort.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, managing and maintaining robotic platforms and ancillary instrumentation to ensure the timely execution of high-quality, microtiter-plate based biochemical and cell-based small molecule screens.

Position Responsibilities Daily operation of robotic platform(s) & laboratory automation to execute a variety of processes to include but not limited to small molecule screening.

Performing quality control and calibration of equipment for both accuracy & precision Troubleshooting of various lab instrumentation and automation Optimizing automation workflows and protocols to increase throughput, improve data quality, and/or reduce consumable consumption Assisting scientists to successfully develop, transfer and execute processes on the integrated platforms and ancillary equipment.

Efficiently manage execution of both scheduled and ad-hoc maintenance of robotic platform and associated equipment by aligning with both internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Ensuring all tasks and responsibilities are performed according to industry-leading scientific standards & accurately documented in SOPs and electronic lab notebook (ELN) system Monitoring technological developments in the field & evaluating new technologies Win What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.

The technical professional we seek has hands on project experience with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications Master’s Degree OR Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of Engineering experience OR Associate’s degree and 5 years of Engineering experience OR High school diploma/GED and 10 years of Engineering experience Preferred Qualifications Master’s in engineering, biomedical engineering, or a relevant field Experience in operating, and maintaining integrated lab automation platforms, ideally HighRes and GNF systems.

Experience programming scheduling software (for example Director, Cellario, Overlord, etc.) Experience running and troubleshooting lab instrumentation, including but not limited to liquid handlers, acoustic dispensers, multi-mode plate readers, compound transfer devices, etc.

Proficiency with CAD modeling (i.e.

SolidWorks) and rapid prototyping (i.e.

3D printing) to quickly design and implement any enabling parts or fixtures required to support new functionalities Programming in .NET, Python and/or other languages.

Experience in reading from and writing to databases using SQL.

Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated successful interpersonal relationships with peers and colleagues in other scientific disciplines Demonstrated ability to work in teams to scale a process from a manual proof-of-concept to a fully-automated, high-capacity, high-throughput unattended operation.
