Aerojet Rocketdyne: Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering

Overview:Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, seeks a Systems Engineer for a full-time position in our Canoga Park, CA facility.This Systems Engineering position will work under general direction, exercise latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments, perform systems engineering assignments requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):80% Provide Systems Engineering application and approach in the design development of hardware and software for rocket propulsion systems.Responsibilities include but not limited to: Requirements derivation, allocation, and documentation in requirements database including coordination with customers on specifications and specification change management.

Coordinates requirements, interfaces, and related specification change management with Integrated Product Team (IPT) members.

Defines and coordinates requirements verification plans with IPT members, plans and manages compliance assessment and certification.

Performs or supports functional analysis and coordinates system trade studies.

Leads project risk assessment and management and prepares and reports results on mitigation plans.

Responsible for systems development activities of Programs, including propulsion system integration, liquid rocket system development & verification planning, test planning, testing in various environments, liquid rocket system and subsystem test, test equipment & facility coordination, test article assembly coordination & hardware assessment, instrumentation requirements and coordination, test readiness review & risk assessment and verification & test report documentation.10% Assists chief engineer with team coordination and planning, interfacing with program management and customers.

Provide leadership and discipline direction to less experienced engineers on team.10% Communicates results in oral presentations and written communication.

Limited travel in support of customer meetings and offsite testing as required.Requirements:Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or related discipline, and five (5) or more years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in solid rocket engine development, systems engineering & integration, verification and test.

Demonstrated leadership competency with strong technical and team-working skills required.

Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Advanced degree desirable.

Coursework in Systems Engineering disciplines (requirements and risk management, product development cycle) and rocket propulsion strongly desired.

Experience with DOORS or equivalent requirements management software preferred.Must be willing and able to travel domestically as needed.Being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 is a condition of employment at Aerojet Rocketdyne.
