Active Motif’s Bioinformatics group performs specialized transcriptomic and epigenetics-based analyses for leading academic groups and pharmaceutical companies and develops new analytical approaches for interrogating epigenetic data.
Active Motif is seeking a Bioinformatics Software Engineer to join our rapidly growing Bioinformatics Development Team.Under the direction of the Director of Bioinformatics and the Development Team Group Leader, the Bioinformatics Software Engineer will support the design and implementation of robust bioinformatics pipelines and analysis platforms.What’s the job all about?Develop, maintain, and debug existing bioinformatics pipelines using Python and PerlRefactor existing pipelines to solve scalability bottlenecks and improve processing timeCollaborate with other development team members to transform pilot code into robust and scalable pipelinesImplement pipelines for use in both on-premise servers and cloud-based instances using a robust workflow managerWrite unit tests to fully test new and updated code modules and regression tests to confirm consistency of developed codeInteract with other members of the development team using a source control systemPresent technical summaries and descriptions to non-technical personnel in a non-technical mannerDeliver high quality work on scheduled timelinesCommunicate effectively and professionally with onsite collaborators and offsite partnersMaintain awareness of best practices and evaluate the applicability of new technologies for scaling analysis pipelinesWhat you can offer?5 years’ experience in multi-developer, commercial software development (experience with biological analysis software preferred)Fluency in Python and competence in Perl scripting and maintenanceExperience with R is preferredExperience with compiled languages a plusExperience developing on Linux operating systems and AWS infrastructureExperience with Docker containers and workflow managers (Nextflow preferred)Experience with agile project management tools (Jira preferred)What Active Motif can offer?In addition to a highly interactive and collaborative work environment, Active Motif also provides competitive salaries and an excellent benefits package.
