Human Resources Coordinator

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Finance, we are looking to hire for our first Human Resources role to support a dynamic team working across our LA, New York, and Japan locations. We are looking for candidates who thrive on working in a fast paced, dynamic, and creative environment and who have a knack for detail and a flare for innovative thinking! The ideal candidate is passionate about HR, equity and inclusion, and delivering a valuable service to the business. 

In the HR coordinator role, you will enjoy proactively identifying opportunities for improvement. You will play a key role in the management of documentation and data for most HR business processes including onboarding, offboarding, employee changes and recruitment. The HR Coordinator will also be involved in HR program and policy development as well as support executing on our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. 

Blum & Poe was founded in Santa Monica in 1994 by Timothy Blum and Jeffrey Poe as a space to show local and international contemporary art in all media. Throughout a twenty-six-year history, Blum & Poe has shaped the trajectory of contemporary art by championing artists at all stages of their careers—cultivating the lineages that run between emerging and established practices, and working with artist estates to generate new discourse surrounding historical work.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Support the coordination of interviews, references, and documentation for staff hiring

• Work with employees to answer benefits questions and assist in processing life events and open enrollment elections

• Conduct new hire orientation and benefits orientation to build a strong foundation for new employees and increase employee engagement

• Formulate methods to improve employment policies, processes and practices as well as recommending changes to management

• Support the coordination of the exit process for departing employees

• Assist in scheduling and communications leading up to performance reviews

• Support the implementation of employee engagement tools i.e. Slack, Pingboard

• Manage the relationship with our diversity, equity, and inclusion external consultant and partner with them to deliver on our DEI strategy and quarterly roadmap 

• Coordinating meetings with the Managing Director and Director of Finance to develop internal communication strategies and HR protocols 

• Facilitating employee relations conversations

REQUIREMENTS 

• 3 years of experience as an HR Coordinator (essential)

• Exposure to Labor Law and employment equity regulations

• Effective HR administration and people management skills

• Exposure to payroll practices

• Full understanding of HR functions and best practices

• Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines

• Strong decision-making and problem solving skills

• Knowledge of contemporary art and art history a bonus

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment 

• High attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and ability to implement and manage multiple projects and timelines 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Proficiency with Mac OS and Microsoft Office 

• Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
