Employee Relations Specialist Human Resources Dept.

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for a variety of employee relations and employee engagement activities including development and implementation of the following Human Resources functions and programs: Employee Relations including but not limited to investigations, coaching and counseling employees, dispute resolution, and terminations, Training and Development; Employee Welfare & Retention; and Workplace Safety & Compliance. The Employee Relations Spe cialist will also be responsible for assessing, developing and delivering training programs to staff, works collaboratively with the Human Resources team to support the smooth operation of the Human Resources office, and work closely with the entire management team to ensure that the Strategic Plan objectives for the Foundation Human Resources department are in alignment with the Strategic Plan Framework and tasks are followed through annually. The Employee Relations Specialist duties also includes providing diversified and complex administrative support to the Human Resources department.

Job Requirements:

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

?  Partner with management to facilitate and ensure that all workplace conflicts are resolved in a manner consistent with laws and California Science Center Foundation policy and procedures and all employee counseling’s and Performance Improvement Plans are in alignment with the California Science Center Foundation Policy and Procedures and are handled and documented appropriately.

?  Utilizes “employee engagement” philosophy and best practices to guide training and development, employee welfare, retention and workplace safety programs.

?  Works with management to promote the mission, organization culture and values of the California Science Center Foundation through the implementation of Human Resources programs designed to increase positive employee relations.

?  Participate in the Strategic Planning process and ensure that the Foundation Human Resources initiatives are updated as required and deliverables are completed as described in the Strategic Plan timeline.

Training and Development

?  Responsible for helping improve the productivity of all staff and volunteers and ensuring compliance with training requirements as specified in policies (i.e., CORE training requirements) and labor laws (i.e., harassment (including sexual harassment) training requirements).

?  Responsible for the effective development, coordination and presentation of training and development programs, including CORE trainings for all employees and volunteers.

?  Coordinates and tracks (HRIS system) all CORE and other trainings as needed.

?  Coordinate and evaluates the CORE training: Workplace Safety on a quarterly basis.

?  Assess organization-wide developmental needs to drive new training initiatives.

?  Actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance of staff and volunteers.

Employee Welfare and Retention Program

?  Acts as lead for organizing, planning and implementing all retention activities for the organization to include: annual celebrations, appreciation events, quarterly birthday events and training & development.

?  Act as Editor-In-Chief of the Employee and Volunteer Newsletter: Connections Ink. Coordinate and facilitate Connections Ink meetings to produce a quality Employee and Volunteer newsletter.

?  Coordinate with Human Resources and Volunteer Team to promote employee motivation, retention strategies, and benchmarking & best practices research to ensure success of programs.

?  Develops and implements employee welfare and retention strategies in the following areas: company socialization and onboarding practices, supervision practices (communication, leadership skill building), employee engagement, perfect attendance and other incentive / reward programs, and training and development.

?  Assists with conducting exit interviews and satisfaction surveys with staff and volunteers to determine if corrective action may retain valued staff and volunteers. Presents exit interview and employee satisfaction findings and recommendations to senior management.

?  Present exit interview and employee satisfaction findings and recommendations to senior management.

?  Supports the Volunteer Department with effective implementation of volunteer welfare, retention and recognition programs.

Workplace Safety and Compliance

?  Responsible for handling all employee Reasonable Accommodation request under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).

?  Complete all annual OSHA Workplace Injury Reporting (including OSHA 300A, etc.).

?  Handle all aspects of Employee Work Related Injuries and monitor progress of claims from inception to close.

?  Conduct investigates of all complaints including harassment, discrimination, and retaliation with resolution based on California Science Center Foundation policies.

?  Supports the efforts of the Human Resources team in administering the safety programs for the organization.

?  Collaborates with State Health and Safety Officer to ensure the California Science Center Foundation is in compliance with OSHA and CAL OSHA standards (through training and recording keeping).

?  Support Human Resources management with ensuring compliance with Staff Emergency Procedures and Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

?  Coordinates or delivers trainings for employees to address and ensure compliance with policies and labor laws through various training such as: Workplace Safety (CORE), CPR / AED / First Aid, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and IT Privacy training, etc.

?  Makes recommendations for improving workplace safety practices.

?  Acts as “Zone Warden” for the Human Resources / Volunteer Department.

?  Performs other duties as required.
