RNFA’s are highly trained and skilled in surgical procedures, and they have completed additional education and certification to qualify for this role. They work under the supervision of a surgeon, and their responsibilities can include positioning the patient, preparing the surgical site, handling instruments, providing tissue retraction, and suturing incisions. RNFA’s play a critical role in ensuring patient safety during surgical procedures, and their expertise helps to improve surgical outcomes.
Requirements
- You must have an active and unrestricted RN license in the state where you plan to work.
- You must pass the National Institute of First Assisting’s Certification Exam for RN First Assistants or the Competency and Credentialing Institute’s CNOR First Assistant Exam.
- 2 years of experience required
