Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a a 100% remote TeleICU Registered Nurse to work in within our footprint in CA, MT, OR, TX, NV or WA.

Shift: Day

We are seeking a TeleICU Registered Nurse who will use audio/visual and monitoring platform technologies to provide remote clinical surveillance of ICU patients, with the goal of identifying potential warning signs of clinical deterioration and supporting early intervention. The responsibilities of this role include electronic reviews of patient charts, labs, real-time hemodynamics, proactive surveillance of physiological trending, working in close partnership with both the TeleICU physician and the bedside care team. As part of this collaboration, the TeleICU Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating staff participating in care for this patient population, to support patient needs and optimize clinical outcomes.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

* Demonstrates critical care clinical competency by completion of a critical care course or equivalent, and can demonstrate advanced competency in: pathophysiology, pharmacology and hemodynamics. Uses critical thinking skills in diagnosing clinical problems and in defining TeleICU interventions. Adequate knowledge to perform assessments, plan patient care, provide support to direct caregivers, and educate and orient families and staff. Must demonstrate advanced clinical and organizational skills related to the care of patients. Ability to complete mathematical calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, equivalencies). Must have knowledge of human growth and development to modify services to the age and development stage of the patient.

* Demonstrates application of clinical skills to monitor critical care patient population across several hospitals or multiple ICUs. Leverages clinical decision systems to proactively prioritize monitoring of deteriorating patients by integrating data from the bedside collaboration and various data sources such as electronic medical record, video assessments, algorithms, AI, predictive models, etc. Validates data and applies knowledge to triage and prioritize tasks to support the bedside caregiver and provider.

* Consistently communicates in an effective, collegial manner with employees, physicians and customers, to provide safe and error-free care during routine and emergent conditions. Ability to apply strong communication skills on video platforms. Skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Must be able to effectively communicate, speak/understand written and verbal instructions, as well as demonstrate a working knowledge of computer skills. Must utilize secure collaborative communications tools such as video meetings, team or individual messaging, virtual telephony, etc. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from patient care providers as well as managers, clients and customers. Must have the ability to work independently, and in a collaborative means.

* Provides guidance and mentoring to the bedside nurse based on standard policies, evidenced based practice, and AACN recommendations within the RN licensure scope.

* Conducts virtual patient rounds- reviews assigned patient census based on highest acuity patients – utilizing information from change of shift report, bedside team and clinical decision systems, such as patient scoring systems, vital sign alerts, best practice alerts, vital sign trending, critical lab values, predictive models, video assessment, etc. Collects pertinent assessment data that includes present condition, past history, physical, spiritual and psychosocial information utilizing input from patient, significant other, and/or healthcare team members as applicable. Interprets data to identify the patient’s needs, monitors and escalates potential problems.

* roactively Identify patient safety or clinical concerns, escalates collaboratively with the bedside RN to attending provider.

* Reviews plan of care with bedside, assists with prioritizing interventions.

* Establishes and adjusts TeleICU priorities based on patient acuity and changing clinical situations.

* Evaluates patient’s response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate. Supports the bedside caregiver to deliver patient care based on pathophysiology and nursing principles.

* Performs technical skills with accuracy and efficiency.

* Works with unit coordinator/secretary to triage incoming calls to provider.

* Utilizes nursing process to incorporate teaching into delivery of patient care. Documents teaching and learning.

* Utilizes the nursing process to support the bedside to prepare for discharge/transfer, beginning with admission and continuing throughout ICU length of stay.

* Supports bedside nurse as remote witness for specified procedures or medications.

* Conducts Quality rounds and provides just in time guidance and feedback to the bedside. Recognizes the patient’s age as a relevant factor and applies appropriate decision-making skills in the assessment, treatment, and care provided for the patient.

* Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians and coworkers, utilizing video as needed. Is a patient advocate. Utilizes resources effectively.

* Facilitates RN to RN rounds.

* Documents TeleICU RN Interventions. Documents complete and accurate information on all appropriate chart or department forms. Reports to oncoming shift in a concise, accurate and relevant manner utilizing department standardized tools and workflows.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

* Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Applicants with an associate degree must actively pursue and attain a BSN within 3 years of hire. Continued employment by Providence beyond 3 years is contingent upon attaining the BSN degree.

* 3 years experience in patient care management of adult critical care patient in an acute care setting within recent 5 years.

* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in one of the states Providence provides nursing care and eligible for multi-state licensure: Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Texas, New Mexico.

* Acquisition of licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in additional states served by Providence within 6 months of hire: Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Texas, New Mexico.

* Basic Life Support for health care providers.

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

* Critical Care Certification within 1 year of hire.
