Abt Associates seeks a qualified Senior Associate/Scientist join our interdisciplinary team conducting novel and required research in support of national-level environmental programs.
Projects encompass support of various environmental regulations, toxicology profiles of chemical contaminants, human health risk assessment, exposure assessment/modeling, and methods development in these areas The successful candidate will conduct research, literature reviews, including systematic reviews, and statistical and other quantitative analyses including dose-response modeling to support the above-mentioned projects.
The successful candidate will develop new business and direct and manage the planning, design, and implementation of technical project protocols and procedures.
The position holder will serve as the primary client contact and translate client needs and/or objectives into specific deliverables.
Federal government agencies, such as the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as state agencies and foundations call on us to conduct policy-driven research and evaluate their key programs.
Key Roles and Responsibilities Direct and manage complex components of large projects or series of smaller projects with responsibility for budget management, project deliverables, client relations, and staff supervision.
Set priorities to ensure the completion of projects in an accurate, timely and cost efficient manner.
Candidates direct and manage complex scientific/technical components of large projects or series of smaller projects with responsibility for the application of advanced methods and techniques in a particular field of specialization Assume significant business development responsibility for identifying new markets and sales opportunities while maintaining current clients; direct sales and proposal efforts in accordance with the Divisions business development plan.
Candidates assume significant leadership role in business development by providing technical expertise.
Make significant scientific/technical contributions to sales and proposal efforts in accordance to the business development plan Direct and establish policies and protocols to carry out research and provide technical guidance to less senior staff through application of advanced techniques, concepts, and methods related to a particular field of specialization.
Direct and serve as the subject-matter expert in the preparation of complex statistical and methodological reports and findings with responsibility as the senior technical writer.
Serve as the primary reviewer of the analytical and technical writing of less senior staff Maintain an industry presence as a subject-matter resource by publishing regularly in peer reviewed journals and/or by presenting at annual conferences and meetings.
Has name recognition.
Collaborate with peers to identify new research approaches and potential markets for those services Identify and recruit senior staff and actively participate in the mentoring of Associates and less senior staff Take lead responsibility for employing a substantial number of staff members at varying level Present and speak at client and professional meetings Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will have an outstanding academic record and work experience in the field.
Training and experience in one or more of the following areas: toxicology, risk assessment, quantitative methods, epidemiology, biology, physiology, microbiology, physical and/or environmental sciences is desirable Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills are essential Experience with human health risk techniques and EPA risk assessments frameworks Familiarity with PBPK models, dose-response modeling including benchmark dose software, and NHANES data analysis.
Must have proven technical expertise.
Experience in business development, project management, client relationship management and supervision/staff development is preferred.
DABT is preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD Four years of relevant experience
