Professional Requirements

Position Summary:

 

Demonstrating proficiency in delivering care to age specific population (e.g. infants). Provides care to assigned patients according to professional standards and established procedures using good judgment.

  • Competent, certified by board and confident to incubate.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient with the use and mechanics of ventilators.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient with Labor and delivery high risk factors for newborn survival, e.g. infant stabilization in the Delivery Room.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient to arterial blood gas procedure for neonates.  
  • Demonstrating knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.  Applicable for the populations checked below:

  • Demonstrating knowledge and technical dexterity in performing neonatal procedures/tests.
  • Performing effectively in emergency situations following guidelines and department standards.
  • Ensuring an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment including quality control monitoring.
  • Maintaining accurate reports, records, statistics, and other educational documentation/certificates.
  • Assisting with staffing support in time of need to provide adequate coverage of assigned shift. 
  • Troubleshooting and correcting basic equipment malfunctions.
  • Demonstrating sensitivity to patients comfort and privacy.  Adapting approaches based on recognized cultural and religious diversity.
  • Cooperating with other personnel in a positive manner to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives and maintains good employee relations.
  • Demonstrating responsibility for cost containment, conservation of supplies and equipment, as well as  other organizational resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Successful completion of two (2) years AMA approved course in Respiratory Care. 
  • Three years experience in all phases of acute Respiratory Care preferred, with some experience in the age- specific category of respiratory care to infants, pediatrics, and adults.  At least one year of the three years shall ideally have been in a capacity and recent experience of  neonatal  intensive care.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • Current CA RCP license
  • Certified Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory care.
  • Specialty certification as necessary for assigned area.
