The Transfusion Medicine Registered Nurse is part of a multidisciplinary team for medical management of therapeutic apheresis patients and blood donors at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. They perform therapeutic apheresis procedures such as stem cell collection and plasma exchange, and blood collection procedures for transfusion. They participate in quality improvement projects to improve patient and blood donor care. They work closely with patients, families, blood donors, nurses, physicians, clinical lab scientists, technicians, and quality specialists at CHLA. Procedural training is provided. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in any field with an AA degree in Nursing. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred and one year RN experience required. Blood collection, Apheresis, Dialysis, Inpatient hospital, Intensive Care Unit, or Emergency Room experience preferred. License, Registration or Certification Required: California Registered Nurse License and American Heart Association CPR/PALS Skills Required: IV’s placement and/or phlebotomy skills, Aptitude to work with technical equipment. Functions calmly, safely and capably in emergency donor room situations.
