Job Description  

Mission Community Hospital, a 145-bed acute care facility located in the San Fernando Valley, is currently searching for 4 RN, Part-Time, Day/ Night Shift, for the Behavioral Unit.   

Job Summary   

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care in the behavioral/mental healthcare setting. Exhibits the ability to perform clinical/nursing functions within the scope of nursing practice. Provides leadership and direction to other licensed and non-licensed staff. This position will be primarily working with behaviorally/mentally ill adult through geriatric patient population, including
gestational females less than 20 weeks in term. Care is provided in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served. Must be able to communicate with Administrative Director, Manager, Charge RN and co-workers as appropriate about
changes in patient’s clinical condition including vital signs, behavioral and physical symptomatology. Respond quickly to changes in patient’s status. The Registered Nurse assists with activities of daily living (ADL’s), provides nursing care, performs services requiring clinical, technical and manual skills on individual patient needs within the nursing’s scope of practice, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Assures that the rights of the patient/family are respected and maintained. She/he demonstrates the ability to safely and competently use equipment in the provision of department
services per scope of practice.   

Demonstrate a high Level of Commitment to providing direct and indirect patient care to the above
identified population, as assigned in the behavioral/mental healthcare setting. Exhibit a Sense of Urgency, appropriate to the situation, while communicating with Physicians/Director/Manager/Charge/ /House Supervisor/Co-Workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition. Additionally, is able to perform the duties in assigned department exhibiting a Can Do Attitude. Combine
education/experience when formulating processes to implement care. To participate in quality and process improvement(s) in the department during all phases from planning to implementing, and sustaining efforts, including taking corrective action if other employees fail to carry out delegated duties.  

Qualifications  

General Job Requirements, Certifications & Knowledge   

 Required  

• Current
license with the California State Board of Nursing.  

• Ability
to read and communicate (in-person and/or via telephone/intercom) effectively
in English.  

• Basic
computer knowledge  

• Current BLS/CPR.  

• FIRE
Card – obtain within 60 days of employment  

• Initial
MABPRO MAB –obtain by completion of unit orientation  

• Advanced
MABPRO certification – obtain by
completion of unit orientation  

Preferred  

• BSN
degree  

• Ability
to speak additional language(s)  

• Minimum of one year (full time status) adult Behavioral Health, Acute Care, Long Term or Sub-acute direct patient care experience within the last two years preferred; or a minimum of one year (full
time status) experience providing direct care, assessment, monitoring, and/or evaluation of individuals diagnosed with mental illness/disability or a medical condition.
