SummaryThe Peri-operative (OR) PACU Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of the operating room and PACU including nursing staff and other allied health care staff.
The ANM serves as an assistant with line authority to the Nurse Manager in providing leadership and direction to nursing staff.

Assuring appropriate staffing levels for the Peri-Operative area on a continual basis to include on-call, day to day operations and working with other Nurse Managers to identify and share resources Participates in training and evaluation of all staff, including participation in employee orientation Maintain the competencies annually and on-going educational plans and in services for staff Coordinate and facilitate procurement of supplies, instrumentation and equipment.
Management of clinical issues, performance improvement activities, customer service and employee safety and satisfaction.
Assuming direct patient care as needed to maintain quality patient care and unit work flow, and ensuring continuity of care during emergency or disaster events.
Providing leadership in improving and sustaining the quality and effectiveness of services to patients Applying professional practice and the Joint Commission Standards in the management of the unit Promote the mission, vision and values of the organization Oversee assigned units and drive the cost-effective delivery of high-quality clinical care Supervise and evaluate staff and budgeting unit expenditures among other responsibilities Verifies the OR personnel provide safe and effective patient centered care in the perioperative services Uses effective conflict resolution techniques Pursues professional growth and participates in professional organizations Assist perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all information Participate in performance improvement activities Work Schedule: Monday
– Friday 8-hour day shift working days/hours flexibility required as patient care needs require.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.
Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript.
(Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience MSN A minimum of five (5) years of successful nursing clinical practice required, with at least one (1) year recent nursing management experience in an OR in a complex affiliated, tertiary facility.
Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification highly preferred.
OR Circulating/Scrub experience Demonstrated skills in effectively managing equipment and supplies.
Demonstrated skills in effectively collaborating with and directing multidisciplinary teams in previous assignments.
Advanced skills in oral and written communications.
Knowledge of the Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I
– An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II
– An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III
– An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II
– A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year’s of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master’s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year’s of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III
– Master’s degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year’s of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year’s of nursing practice/experience.
