JOB SUMMARY:  the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing administrative and clinical duties for the patients of the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Health and Mental Health Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In accordance with the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s defined psychiatric nurse practitioner protocols, the psychiatric nurse practitioner will: obtain review of psychotropic medications and mental health history, provide a 5-axis differential diagnosis, formulate and execute a treatment plan including medications and follow-up schedule, recognize need for physician consultation when appropriate, including need for referral to specific specialists; Follow-up patients as needed to ensure compliance with protocol/treatment guidelines; Participate in formal and informal case consultation with the referring provider; Deliver appropriate patient health education and disease prevention; Participate in clinical research projects; Maintain the strict confidentiality of patient records at all times; Accept responsibility for his/her own professional development and engage in continuing education (i.e.: Inter-City HIV Grand Rounds) to maintain and enhance medical skills, knowledge and procedures; Serve as a role model for ancillary staff, patients, and students; Participate in educational or administrative meetings as necessary or requested; Involvement in one or more Department of Health and Mental Health Services committees; Other duties as assigned;
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:  
Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people; A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people; CA RN license/MSN with current CA Furnishing Number; DEA registration; Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card; Minimum five years experience with outpatient mental health care or HIV specialty mental health care with dual-diagnosis; Ability to develop and maintain patient records; Basic computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, and spreadsheets; Ability to effectively educate patients and their families; Superior interpersonal communication skills; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
