Project Manager – Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences

Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences Industry Leader that will be responsible for helping drive the strategic growth of our West Coast pharmaceutical & life sciences business.

They will focus on developing business, building engineering and construction capabilities and managing projects for pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other segments of the life sciences industry.

The individual will grow the firm’s design build business in the life sciences industry in the West Coast.

This includes helping to grow the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Serve as project manager on key projects.
  • Assist in the development of already established clients and new clients.
  • Assist in the development and organization of a focused sales approach strategy.
  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office and practice leadership
  • Develop relationships with other consultants and contractors to build possible teaming arrangements for large pursuits.
  • Assist in contract and negotiations process for projects after selection
  • Assist in the development of a long-term strategic plan for growth and sustainability of the business.
  • Initiate and lead proposal development and production.
  • Must be able to maximize profit and billable hours on projects and achieve the stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Assist in recruitment, development and retention of staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited curriculum
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing projects in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or medical device industry
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage work plans, schedules and budgets and provide leadership to a diverse project team
  • Ability to develop business with new clients
  • Flexibility to travel 25%-50% of the time
  • Strong understanding of the design-build contracting methodology and prior experience completing design-build projects
  • Must be well versed in contract negotiation
  • Strong communication abilities exhibited by developed client relationships.

    Ability to quickly build long-term connections with internal and external clients

  • Must carry strong interpersonal and communication skills and display a positive can-do attitude both internally and externally
