Lets change the world In this pivotal role reporting to the Director Physical Science and Engineering, Manufacturing Science and Technologies, the successful candidate for this position will provide integrated management of the Combination Products Organization key Physical Sciences, Engineering Fluid mechanics and mass spectrometry analysis of system performance in real world conditions (from cryogenic to ambient temperatures and ultra-low vacuum to ambient pressure conditions).

This function serves Amgen in the development of characterization for system integrity (via fluid mechanics, mass spectrometry and other techniques), physical performance measurement systems, for medical device/combination product and design verification deliverables for all combination products and other systems.

Role Responsibilities: The Principal Engineer will operate in a highly matrixed environment to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.

In addition to being the subject matter expert for fluid mechanics/mass spectrometry, transport phenomena, and optics, the principal engineer will lead a group of highly talented staff responsible for critical analysis of combination products and other systems, ensure laboratories maintain proper state of qualification, calibration and preparedness for inspections related to safety, compliance, and procedures.

The Principal Engineer must also clearly communicate and elevate technical or strategic issues to team members and management as needed and make robust recommendations and/or decisions to guide successful execution of system integrity and mechanical testing for medical device and combination product systems as well as other key systems.

Group members within the functional area, Manufacturing, and Quality rely on this position as a scientific/technical expert who can provide insight and guidance on associated issues as needed.

Demonstrated supervisory skills are required.

Own and maintain business processes for development, qualification, validation and transfer of system integrity methods for product verification of new products, and transfer of knowledge and technique to key partners.

The Principal Engineer must contribute in a collaborative environment to ensure documentation can withstand an audit and pass GMP agency scrutiny Work with industry experts to advance state of the art system integrity methods inclusive of tracer gas methods, high voltage leak detection, optics, and other new emerging technologies Collaborate with system integrity work center teams to establish an executable strategy to meet the future needs and advance the industry standards.

Expectation that this Principal Engineer participates in external organization and standards committees to drive consensus aligned with Amgen strategy Act as senior advisor across the physical science and engineering group 10-25% travel to domestic and international locations is needed to help the development partners during implementation of specific container requirements into their processes Win What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.

The Engineering Professional we seek is a collaborative leader with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree and 2 years of engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar experience OR Masters degree and 6 years of engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar experience OR Bachelors degree and 8 years of engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar experience OR Associates degree and 10 years of engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar experience AND 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD Degree in engineering/physics/chemistry/or similar or related field 8 years of experience with 3 years experience in leading a highly matrixed organization Experience including managing a lean, high performing technical staff for 3 years, direct experience in system integrity, DOE, statistical analysis, and transport phenomena Excellent problem solving, trouble shooting, and communication skills.
