Our Postdoctoral Scientist will focus onstudying the role of microglia in Alzheimer’s Disease pathogenesis and evaluatingmolecules that can augment microglial function and neurotoxic Amyloid-beta (A b ) processing and homeostasis in the brain. Our successful candidate will hold a Doctoral Degree (preferably with expertise in microglia biology andAlzheimer’s disease, but at a minimum with neuroscience, neurobiology,molecular biology or a closely related field). You must have experience with translational research using animalmodels to study mechanisms of gene function and disease pathogenesis.

Experience in molecular biology, cell culture,immunocytochemistry, Western blotting, PCR, quantitative real-time PCR and histology/imagingtechniques including quantitative bright-field and fluorescence microscopy and confocalmicroscopy is required.

Experience withproteomics analysis of isolated protein complexes will be beneficial for someof the planned protein-protein interaction experiments.

You will be expected to collaborativelydesign experiments, and independently collect and analyze data, troubleshootexperimental protocols, consolidate data for publication and grantapplications, present research at national and international meetings, andprepare manuscripts for publication. Teachingand supervising other research staff, students, and residents may be required.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will work independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to makesignificant and creative contributions to the assigned research project.

 R esearch projects assigned are developed under the direction and in collaboration with thePrincipal Investigator, Warren Tourtellotte, MD, PhD, Professor and Vice-Chairof Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgeryand Biomedical Sciences.

 You are  expected to have substantial scientific independence, organization,creativity and motivation.A significanttrack-record of scholarly productivity and strong evidence of successful predoctoralexperimental design and execution is expected and essential.

Educational Requirements:  PhD or highest Degree in their field is required  Experience:  Demonstratedsignificant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creativeprogram or project.

Knowledgeof PI’s area of research specialization.  Demonstrated technical competency in avariety of research techniques and protocols.

The position requiresworking with microscopes, computers and at the lab bench for extended periodsof time, and it requires the use of specialized laboratory equipment.

Must be able to sit, standand/or stoop for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
