Mission Hospital is a 145 bed acute care hospital with a 50 year legacy of serving the San Fernando Valley. We provide quality service with a mission of compassionate care. Currently, we seek a Program Therapist Intern for our outpatient behavioral unit service.
The Program Therapist Intern is a Master’s Level Mental Health Professional who will be working on accruing hours to become licensed as a Clinical Therapist. The Program Therapist Intern provides quality patient care to adult and geriatric psychiatric populations by conducting groups and psychological assessments. The Program Therapist Intern serves as patient case manager and a member of the multidisciplinary team. The Program therapist Intern complies with established policies and procedures and provides direct patient care according to established treatment plans for individual patient needs and the ability to relate in a therapeutic and professional manner. This is demonstrated, in part, by his/her responsiveness to patient requests with promptness, empathy, and general interest. The Program Therapist Intern must possess sound clinical judgment and be capable of professionally setting aside personal feelings and beliefs to become client centered. Three key areas of focus are as follows:
Clinical Responsibilities
The Program Therapist Intern conducts groups and individual sessions and documents outcomes appropriately and legally. The Therapist Intern will have their group notes, treatment plans and individual therapy notes co-signed by a licensed clinician, along with other reports that need a Supervisor’s signature. Program Therapist Interns are responsible for meeting with their Supervisor, a licensed clinician, who will be assigned to them weekly for group supervision and one to one individual supervision in order for them to accrue hours for their licensure. He/she is responsible for psychological assessments/evaluations on all assigned patients. The Program Therapist Intern serves as patient case manager and a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, maintaining current individual treatment plans and reviewing these during clinical staff and treatment planning meetings, communicating social service agendas, to coordinate rehabilitation, as needed, for patients. In crisis situations, the Program Therapist Intern participates to facilitate de-escalation of the incident as much as possible and seeks supervision from supervisee assigned to the Program Therapist Intern. He/She participates in the performance improvement of the program by gathering designated data and reporting findings, as requested, to the Program Administrator.
Communication
The Program Therapist Intern is able to maintain effective professional communications in both verbal and written form with all department administrators, medical staff, employees, patients, families and supervisors. The Program Therapist Intern will communicate with their supervisor and ask for assistance and feedback on all patient matters. The Program Therapist Intern will not make any clinical decisions without informing and consulting with the Treatment Team and with their supervisor. They assist with the accurate, legal, and timely completion of assessments, reports, forms, and documents. At times, they serve as a liaison between patients, staff, physicians, community entities and utilize principles of quality customer service in all communications. As a master’s level or above professional, the Program Therapist Intern may need to submit reports as requested by Program Administrator.

The Program Therapist Intern consistently shows the ability to work independently with maximum productivity and report to his/her supervisee for guidance. Detail-oriented and well organized, this clinician demonstrates the ability to make decisions, problem-solve, utilize effective time- management skills and be self-directed in carrying out duties and responsibilities. He or she is flexible, creative and open to new learning experiences. This clinician consistently coordinates tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency; performs duties in an independent manner with direct supervision; consistently shows the ability to see what needs to be done; responds promptly and positively when directed to perform a duty; doesn’t abuse sick days or personal days off; and makes him/herself available when coverage is needed; and personnel file/certifications/education status is current.
Qualifications:
1.Minimum of Master of Arts or Master of Science in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or Counseling Psychology.
2. Minimum of one-year experience working with adult psychiatric patient population.
3. Acceptable to contracting hospital (if applicable).
4. Excellent verbal and written skills.
5. Current CPR and MAB or PART; or will receive CPR/MAB/PART within probationary period.
6. Current BBS Intern Registration Number or Associate Clinical Social Worker Number.
