Job Specifics and Requirements:

  • Location / Area: Must be able to work in the Los Angeles, CA area
  • Licensure Requirements: Must have valid, clear and active California Pharmacy Technician license – REQUIRED. (PTCB not required, but HIGHLY preferred)
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Years of Experience: 2+ years of Inpatient or Home Infusion experience REQUIRED ~AND~ 1 year Oncology experience preferred
  • Schedule: Full-Time – Varies – Day, Afternoon, and/or Evening shifts (M-F and some weekends)
  • Length of Assignment: Temp to PERMANENT
  • Pay: $24-$30 – Depending on Experience
  • Setting: Oncology Clinic

Oncology Pharmacy Technician

In this critical position, you will be chiefly responsible for ensuring that the proper medications get to the patients who need them. As an Oncology Pharmacy Technician you’ll manage and maintain a clean, efficient and secure pharmacy environment, collaborating with a variety of specialists and personnel. Excellent communication, organization and attention to detail will characterize the winning candidate for this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather all orders and medications, and prep for clean room according to USP 797/800 compliance
  • Maintain all temperatures in the Quality Control notebook
  • Handle compounding of IV’s, TPN’s, satellites and chemotherapy
  • Execute IV preparation and delivery, including Oncology and IV compounding and narcotic IV compounding
  • Aseptically prepare all sterile admixture requests for patients, upon receipt of physician orders from clinical and infusion centers
  • Performs aseptic validation testing monthly for the area and yearly for Pharmacy Technicians
  • Report any misconduct, suspicious or unethical activities to the Compliance Officer.
  • Receive written prescription or refill requests, and verify that information is complete and accurate
  • Work closely with other technicians, pharmacists and clinical staff to fill prescribed medication orders and ensure proper distribution and administration in an Oncology and Inpatient setting
  • Establish patient profiles and prescription files where appropriate, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
  • Keep pharmacist updated on patient or service problems
  • Receive, verify and stock inventory, cleaning engagement in shipping process , including preparing packages for shipment
  • Order and maintain appropriate stock levels of Oncology and IV drugs and supplies in compliance with contracts
  • Assist with the proper accounting and transfer of Oncology and IV pharmaceuticals to infusion therapy and oncology cost centers
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for all drugs
  • Sanitize IV room, equipment and hood. Clean, maintain and sterilize equipment or work areas according to approved methods.
  • Execute various quality assurance procedures, including inspection, repairs and biological laboratory testing
  • Maintain appropriate logs and cleaning records of biomedical equipment
  • Arrange preventative maintenance and inspections, as needed
  • Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, check for outdated medications in current inventory, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages
  • Work closely with and collaborate directly with oncology and infusion personnel to identify special needs, drugs and IV medical supplies for ordering
  • Assemble supplies and arrange for proper delivery or pickup of IV, chemotherapy and home infusion medications and supplies
  • Answer telephones and respond to questions or requests
  • Perform special duties and projects as required
  • Assist the pharmacist in all day-to-day Inpatient duties
