Overview: Under the immediate supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor, the Occupational Therapist will be directly involved in patient evaluation, planning, directing and administering occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician.

He/She will assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, by providing effective, and quality care for the patient.

She/He will ensure patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.

The Occupational Therapist will coordinate, delegate, and supervise assigned supportive staff (COTA).

He/She will perform other duties as directed by the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor.

Responsibilities: POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)1 Upon referral, evaluate patients by performing appropriate functional assessment as related to occupational therapy.2 Identifies appropriate goals and administers effective treatment plans.3 Efficiently implements and modifies treatment plans.4 Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommends change to physician as needed.5 Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family training is included as appropriate.6 Completes all documentation required by either policy, procedure, or regulation.

7 Delegates and supervise patient treatment as appropriate to the COTA.8 Co-signs all COTAs notes.9 Participate in in-service education programs.10 Participate in clinical instruction of students.11 Ensures patient charges are accurate.12 Completes billing sheet accurately by end of day.13 Assists with orientation of registry and newly hired staff as directed.14 Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.15 Instruct/Inservice other disciplines regarding OT functions.16 Keep abreast of current trends and developments in occupational therapy and rehabilitation.17 Participates in professional activities in order to continue their own professional development and contribute to that of the profession.18 Adheres to the AOTAs Code of Ethnics and Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy.19 Attends department staff meetings/reads and signs off on all missed staff meeting minutes.20 Meets expectations successfully on all position specific duties.21 Provides orientation to newly hired staff.22 Meets 3 professional goals.23 Meets daily productivity targets at least 90% of the time.24 Maintain 24 hour of continuing education, which includes hospital inservices, and attendance of seminars.25 Give 2 inservices.26 Provide 6 hours of teaching.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION:Graduation from a school of Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.EXPERIENCE:Two years experience in Occupational Therapy.CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:Current valid license through the California Board of Occupational Therapy, or eligible for such licensure at the time of appointment.

Membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Occupational Therapy Association of California is encouraged.Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider.OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of the principals and practices of Occupational Therapy, with knowledge of practices of other disciplines.

Ability to evaluate, to plan and to carry out an Occupational Therapy rehabilitative program for individuals patients; ability to explain, demonstrate and teach Occupational Therapy rehabilitative measures; ability to supervise supportive personnel; ability to work effectively with others in an inter-disciplinary team relationship; beginning ability to be self-directed and to seek direction and consultation as needed; ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in written format.Must have basic computer skills.
