The Saperstein Critical Care Tower, which is home to the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit, is Cedars-Sinai’s 250,000-square-foot, 150-bed intensive care building. The recently expanded 24-bed Neuroscience Critical Care Unit on the building’s eighth floor is one of the largest in the nation, and is a shared resource of the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work with the Cedars-Sinai Neuroscience Critical Care Division, which operates a world-class, 24-bed unit that specializes in the management of critically ill patients with neurological conditions. State-of-the-art care in the unit is provided by a multidisciplinary team comprising full-time Neurointensivists, Clinical Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, Neurology and Anesthesia Residents and a dedicated Neurocritical Care Pharmacist.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
- Provide direct patient care on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule that includes weekdays, nights, weekends and holidays
- Participate in rounding on Neurology, Neurosurgery and Traumatic Brain Injury patients
- Patient population includes both surgical and non-surgical patients in an ICU setting
- The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge
- A Nurse Practitioner’s practice incorporates both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients
- Responsible to the Medical Director and the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team.
- Provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent.
- Recognize safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.
Educational Requirements:
- Master of Nursing Degree required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered
License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
- Current State of California Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Furnishing License
- Current DEA license or eligibility to obtain
- National Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- ACLS from American Heart Association
- ACNP or AGACNP required
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years critical care nursing experience required
- Neurology or Neurosurgery experience preferred
- Experienced NP preferred
