Overview:

Position Statement/Position Summary:

The Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Heart Institute is an advanced practice nurse who provides nursing and medical services to patients throughout the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery service line: Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, Cardiothoracic Acute Ward, and Pre/post-operative Clinics. The NP works collegially with the surgeons emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, as well as diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases.
Services include but are not limited to ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies in a cost – efficient manner. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients’ health care problems. Serve as health care resources, interdisciplinary consultants and patient advocates. Demonstrates commitment to a patient and family focused model of care.

Minimum Qualifications /Work Experience: Three years pediatric RN experience preferred. 1 year of specialty area experience and nurse practitioner experience preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for “hold out as a Nurse Practitioner” as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code. Current California Registered Nurse License and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Current BCLS certification required. National certification as appropriate – preferred. Eligible for Furnishing License – required.

Hours: Shifts can vary between days/nights & weekends. Hours will evolve as the service needs develop.

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
