– Downey and PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital, 27 outpatient medical locations, a multispecialty medical (physician) group, home healthcare services and hospice care, as well as heart, cancer, women’s health, urgent care and emergency services.
This is a management position that is responsible for staff supervision and coordinating all coding and abstracting functions including inpatient, observation, ambulatory surgery, GI lab, interventional radiology/cardiology, ED, referred and series outpatient.
Monitor discharged not final billed (DNFB) and workflow to ensure timely and accurate coding of accounts.
Establishes written guidelines for uniformity and consistency of coded data.
Monitors accuracy and productivity of coding staff.
Develops policies and procedures to support coding guidelines.
Is responsible for overseeing the quality and accuracy of coded and abstracted data for all patient types.
Oversees the facilities patient discharge data reporting to the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD).
Required Skills Must demonstrate a complete knowledge of all disease and procedural coding schemes/classification systems, such as ICD 10 CM, CPT and HCPCS and relevant to outpatient coding.
Working knowledge of Medicare and local fiscal intermediary outpatient coding guideline determinations.
Must demonstrate technical knowledge of the APC/MSDRG prospective payment system and use of computer encoders and abstracting systems.
Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
Familiarity with Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development’s (OSHPD) discharge data reporting requirements is mandatory.
Must have a working understanding of hospital policies and procedures, and possesses effective communication skills, written and oral.
Ability to analyze and prioritize workflow.
Must have a high level of professionalism and be able to interact with physicians, staff, etc.
Must be detail-oriented.
Must work on-site.
Required Experience Must be a Registered Health Information Tech and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
A minimum of five years coding experience and a minimum of three years prior supervisory experience.
Knowledge of all state reporting requirements for OSHPD inpatient, ambulatory surgery and emergency department patient discharge data submission is required.
Must be proficient with computerized coding and abstracting systems.
