POSITION SUMMARY

The RSFWC Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing assessment and mental health treatment, including crisis-management and therapy, for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) clients in UAII’s Robert Sundance Family Wellness Center. The Therapist is a part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides comprehensive mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment for AI/AN adolescents and adults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct program intakes and psychosocial assessments

• Provide individual therapy services for individuals and/or couples through face-to-face office visits and/or tele-medicine or tele-health contacts

• Facilitate psychoeducational group sessions for substance abuse support groups

• Perform crisis intervention, counseling and risk assessments

• Develop recommendations and individual treatment plans for each client

• Facilitate referrals and linkages to outside service providers, as needed for case management

• Collaborate with other members of the RSFWC treatment team, including substance abuse counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, public health nurses and case managers to provide comprehensive client care

• Document all client encounters and SOAP notes in Indian Health Service’s Behavioral Health Data System

• Submit monthly reports and treatment logs to RSFWC administrative Program Director

• Maintain client charts and meet all documentation deadlines as required by funding sources, accrediting agencies and UAII agency policy

• Participate in staff clinical case conferences

• Attend and participate in program events to provide outreach to the community and to recruit potential clients

• Attend all staff meetings and departmental and agency events as required by the Program Director

• Arrange work schedule to benefit the program and clients with the approval of the Program Director

• Keep Program Director well informed regarding activities, pending issues and potential problems

• Adhere to agency policies and procedures and program protocols to advance the goals of UAII in a manner that embodies the agency’s mission and vision

• Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Program Director to fulfill the purpose of the Therapist position

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Qualifications:
• Minimum of one-year clinical experience in a community-based counseling setting, preferably in a substance abuse setting and/or with co-occurring disorders

• Must be registered with or licensed by California Board of Psychology or Board of Behavioral Science

Required Education:
• Master’s Degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work or marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university.

Certifications:
• LCSW preferred

Confidentiality:
• Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPPA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures

• This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach in confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination

Communication/ Interpersonal Skills:
• Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Proficient in English

Technology Skills:
• Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Working knowledge of Google (Mail, Calendar, Drive, Meets)

• Working knowledge of Zoom or similar meeting platforms

Other Skills:
• Available and willing to travel as needed

• Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed

• Maintains personal responsibility for maintaining valid licensure and for ensuring timely completion of appropriate Continuing Education Units for renewal of license

POSITION PREFERENCES

• Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community

• Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts.

• Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638)

• A minimum of two years sobriety

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical demands: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with staff and vendors.

Mental demands: There are several deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with various people on various and, at times, complex issues.
