Job Details Level Management Job Location CRTP – Los Angeles, CA Position Type Full Time Education Level 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage Up to 25% Job Shift Day Job Category Nonprofit – Social Services Description Medical Services Manager Exempt Crisis Residential Treatment Program Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, a non-profit entity, is an experienced provider that operates the Crisis Residential Treatment Program, a state licensed residential facility for up to 16 adults with mental disabilities, ages 18-59, located in Los Angeles. The program offers a structured residential program with intensive mental health supportive services in order to prepare and empower clients to develop independent skills, and improve current levels of functioning in order to successfully re-integrate back into community living. CRTP employs a dynamic team of approximately 15 multidisciplinary staff (e.g. Paraprofessionals, Master’s level/licensed therapists, Case Aides, Medication Technicians, etc.) seven days per week to monitor care, provide case management services, mental health services including classes in independent living skills and socialization, individual and group therapy sessions, assistance with vocational and education plans, and medication support services. SUMMARY OF POSITION The Medical Services Manager at CRTP is responsible for planning and coordinating the activities of the medication room. They are expected to oversee all medication room personnel and collaborate with other disciplines and departments to maintain safety and quality. ESSENTIALS DUTIES Administers personal care, medications, treatments, and other nursing procedures to selected clients as authorized by Hospital policy, professional license, and Standards of Practice. Helps formulate nursing interventions and treatment goals as part of the treatment team. Supervises, encourages, and teaches the clients personal hygiene and dietary needs as well as medication actions and reactions. Responsible for monitoring quality control related to integrity of medication administration records, medication destruction records and other med room documentation/protocols. Assists in situational crisis intervention as needed. Participates in treatment team meetings, in -service training, and other meetings as scheduled. Assists professional staff in arranging emergency transportation for psychiatric and medical emergencies. Provides 24 hours on-call coverage for emergency consultation and intervention outside of regular work hours. Reports safety hazards, maintenance, and EVS requirements to the Residential Manager. Leads client’s education groups, provides individual client psych-education and completes DMH billing as instructed. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, i.e., notifies staff administration, police, fire department, ambulance, and paramedics, as appropriate. Provides administrative supervision to medication room personnel. Responsible for personnel actions, such as recruitment, hiring, evaluations, and progressive disciplinary action for med room personnel. Creates and updates monthly medication room personnel schedules as needed. Provides coverage for medication room shifts as necessary. Plans Psychiatrist and Medical Clinic schedules. Monitors recommendations for follow up when indicated, communicates relevant information to treatment team members. Maintains logs for annual and monthly client documentation requirements (e.g., H&P, TB tests, etc.). Administers and documents all staff and client TB tests, maintains due date log. Monitors and ensures clients take prescribed medications and audits MARs and med carts on a regular basis. Orders, receives, and stocks Medication Room supplies. Responsible for communicating with the pharmacy regarding client medications ordered, reconciliation of deliveries and follow up on prescription delays to ensure prompt resolution (e.g., TARs, insurance delays, etc.) Coordinates and facilitates monthly med room tasks including, but not limited to, infection control checks, cycle med reconciliation and medication destruction. Seeks learning opportunities to gain new knowledge/skills which result in continuous quality improvement. Seeks appropriate guidance from immediate supervisor to achieve expected outcomes. Maintains competence in all clinical skills necessary for performance of duties. Maintains competence in interpersonal skills necessary to direct and supervise med room personnel. Establishes channels of communication that promote department and interdepartmental collaboration and problem solving. Uses written communication effectively to document in accordance with all regulatory agency and hospital requirements. Demonstrate active listening skills that encourage open communication with staff, clients, and families. Contributes to a positive therapeutic milieu by action and responsible communication with coworkers, supervisors, and administration on any issue of concern relevant to job responsibilities and the agency. Responsible for policy, procedure and safety suggestions to the Director of Nursing, CRTP Program Director, and Operations Administrator. Observes and promptly reports changes in clients’ conditions and behavior to the Program Director, Treatment Team, and Psychiatrist. Complies with agency and DMH standards regarding clinical documentation, including service delivery benchmark and 24-hour turn-around time for completion of progress notes. Performs other additional related tasks as assigned. Oversees assigned staff and holds them accountable for accuracy in performing all client care and shift assignments. Delegates shift responsibilities to licensed/unlicensed assistive personnel. Facilitates meetings with med room personnel to discuss shift activities and client care planning. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of behavior modification approach. Experience with mentally ill clients. Experience with Nonviolence Crisis Intervention, seclusion and restraints, or CPI-related training. One (1) year experience as Registered Nurse One (1) year of supervisory/management experience EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES Minimum Education Required: Associate degree in nursing. Desired Education: BSN, Certification by ANA as a psychiatric nurse. REQUIREMENTS Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance. Valid California Driver’s license. TB clearance. Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier. Fire and Safety Training. First Aid Training Certification. CPR Certification. Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI) Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire. Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by on-boarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
