Department DescriptionIn support of UCDHS’ mission of ” Improving lives and transforming health care” , the Department of Pathology and laboratory medicine provides high quality diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients, both UCDHS’ and its affiliates, through the examination and interpretation of tissue, blood, and other body fluids. Our laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP) and located in three distinct facilities: the Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP), the Pathology Buildings, and the Specialty Testing Center. At the Supervisory level, this individual will be competent in the full range of tissue preparation assignments, including the most specialized techniques, such as immuno-histochemical stains. They also serve as a leader for staff for technical expertise and in troubleshooting and development of new techniques.This is a supervisory position that oversees the Histology section of the UCDHS Anatomic Pathology Laboratory. Supervisors adhere to all departmental and governing organizations polices and guidelines and ensures effective and efficient operations of the section’s pre-analytical performance.This position also oversees staff training and competency, investigates problems, makes operational and fiscal decisions within the section, and coordinates with other areas of the laboratory.Required Qualifications:Possess Histotechnician Certification (HT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).Undergraduate degree (B.S. or B. A.)Two years of supervisory experiencePossesses effective written and oral communication skills.Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.Knowledge of hospital and Laboratory Information System (LIS), EMR, hospital Incident Report System (RL Solutions), email, Internet, Microsoft Office and data management software.Possesses excellent interpersonal and team management skills to effectively collaborate with physicians, technologists, nursing and other staff.Knowledge of employee progressive disciplinary steps, Collect Bargaining Agreements and human resources Leaves of Absence ( i.E., FMLA, KinCare, Workers’ Compensation, etc.).Possesses knowledge of and applies the principles of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Continuous Quality Improvement.Preferred QualificationsHistotechnologist (HTL).Graduate DegreeSpecial RequirementsThis position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.The University of California has implemented a SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination Policy (ucop.Edu) covering all employees.
