This position is a PSR with Medical Assistant duties when needed. Main job functions are those of a PSR and will cover for a Medical Assistant to help with coverage.

A Little More About What You Will be Doing

The PSR/Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals working in the hospital licensed clinics. Medical Assistant duties may include non-invasive routine technical services under the supervision of a licensed physician, surgeon or podiatrist who is on the premises. PSR duties may include answering incoming telephone calls; scheduling and authorization for appointments, surgeries and ancillary services; patient check-out and rescheduling of follow-up appointments; insurance verification functions; chart/medical records preparation; and sorting and deposition of mail and patient information

  • Applies a consistent telephone greeting, answers telephones, takes complete and accurate messages, triages information, and relays to appropriate party to support operational aspects of patient care
  • Schedules patient appointments, coordinates procedures/testing with outside departments, and ancillary services, acquires required authorizations timely to allow for rescheduling of appointment if needed according to guidelines/workflows by providing required documentation, monitors daily patient schedule, places reminder calls, and identifies “no shows” for rescheduling
  • Consistently verifies patient information at the time of scheduling to prevent scheduling errors, i.e Patient Name, DOB, Gender, Telephone number, etc.
  • Ensures the collection of patient demographics and insurance information. Ability to obtain and provide cash prices for uninsured patients once validated with the PSRII or Lead
  • Calls patients with appointment reminders (and/or works edit list from Televox)
  • Maintains physician appointment schedule templates in Cadence (scheduling system)
  • Performs clinical responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting lab specimens, performing EKG’s, administering medications and injections (as directed by clinician), and records / documents patient record
  • Prepares, cleans exam / procedure room and setup appropriate supplies. Ensures equipment, forms and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit / procedure. Maintains and monitors all equipment used for patient care and testing and reports discrepancies to supervisor

Educational Requirements:

Vocational/Technical Diploma Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program

Licenses:

Minimum: Basic Life Support (BLS) 
Minimum: CA Phlebotomy Certification (CPT1)  ( complete 1 year upon hire)
Preferred: Certified Registered Medical Assistant

Experience:

1 year Medical Assistant, medical office, ambulatory care facility, or medical
group practice
