Hospital Radiation Physicist

ResponsibilitiesUnder direction of the Chief of Radiology Physics, responsible for the continuing development, implementation, and maintenance of the Clinical Radiology Physics program within the Dept.

of Radiological Sciences supporting diagnostic imaging modalities across multiple departments throughout the UCLA Healthcare Enterprise.Emphasis on evaluation and calibration of imaging equipment across all imaging modalities including Projectional X-Ray, Fluoroscopy; diagnostic and interventional, Computed Tomography, and MRI.

Physics activities include assessment and standardization of image quality, shielding design, and radiation dosimetry across all modalities.Requires interfacing with government, accrediting bodies, professional organizations, and university and hospital departments, for compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, and staff and equipment licensure.Other responsibilities include providing expertise for patient consults, development and implementation of staff and faculty education, and providing a leadership role in defining policy in radiation protection and diagnostic imaging excellence consistent with excellent patient care.Note:***This position supports the entire Health system******This will include travel between all locations supported by UCLA Health******Applicants who are not board certified will be expected to outline a time table for certification***QualificationsSkills, Knowledge and Abilities+ Computer workstations: PC, Unix based, Mac+ MS Office (all), database, presentation, physics, analysis (e.g.

Matlab) and dosimetry software+ Working knowledge of Hospital and Radiology Information Systems (PACS, EPIC, Radiant)+ Software development , coding/programming+ General office hardware and configuration (printers, scanners, fax, local area network)+ Diagnostic medical physics and radiation measurement instrumentation and software+ X-Ray equipment inclusive of CT scanners, radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment, interventional angiographic and cardiac cath labs
– across multiple vendor platforms
– constant+ Mammography systems including digital and tomosynthesis+ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems+ Ancillary image receptor systems including digital and computed radiography systems+ Operate personal vehicle to independently access clinics across Southern CaliforniaExperience:+ Didactic training and practical experience in Medical Physics or related field with Masters required, PhD (Preferred)+ Operational knowledge of radiation physics, dosimetry, biology, and shielding+ Ability to both independently and collaboratively assess and resolve theoretical and practical problems in the evaluation radiation producing/ imaging equipment.+ Ability to independently operate as a clinical medical physicist, interacting with staff and management of various clinical sites+ Ability to communicate (English), and professionally and academically collaborate with physicians and physics colleagues.+ Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with and council patients from pediatric to geriatric.+ Working familiarity with medical anatomy and physiology as applied to medical questions and patient consults+ Demonstrated skills in teaching theory and application of Medical and Radiologic Physics including development of lesson plans, presentations, and evaluation tools.+ Qualified to provide medical physics mammography services (state/fed)License:+ ABR Certified or Eligible+ Masters Degree or higherUCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
