Home Visitor (Mental Health Specialist)

Role Overview: The Vista Village_ Home Visitor – Mental Health Specialist (bilingual) is a member of the interdisciplinary Home-Based Early Head Start (EHS) program team and is responsible for providing parent/family home visitation, mental health services, family support services, socialization group support, child development enrichment activities, and collaborating with staff, parents and community agencies. Supports the Vista Village mission and the implementation of Head Start Performance Standards serving Los Angeles County. Essential Job Duties: Caseload of approximately 10 families (and not more than 12 families) with children 0-3 years and pregnant clients; Conduct screenings and assessments of families and children, including developmental screening and ongoing assessment of children, family functioning, nutrition, dental, health care tracking, home safety, and prenatal care; Utilize child development screenings/ongoing assessments to create individualized goals and objectives for each child. Incorporate home visitor and parent observations and Regional Center IFSP goals (as appropriate) into these plans; Develop Family Partnership Agreement with family, including individual/family goals and objectives; Provide bilingual (English and Spanish) in-home mental health services, developmental guidance, parent education, nutrition and dental care information, support and case management services; Case coordination and collaboration with other Home-Based EHS staff, Vista Village staff and community providers; Consult with Health Services staff for determination of child health status upon child’s entry into the program and for ongoing monitoring of infant/child health. Work with parents to increase their understanding of their child’s health needs (including preventative care) and their role in supporting their child’s health; Qualifications: At least 1 year of experience working with young children and their families; Works with age group: 0-3 years of age Bilingual in English and Spanish (Preferred) Valid California Driver’s License and available vehicle. What You Bring to VDM: MSW or MFT from an accredited school. Must meet or exceed the requirements of the Home-Based Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate; If the candidate does not have the Home-Based CDA or equivalency, employment is contingent upon the employee obtaining their Home-Based CDA within 18 months of hire.
