Overview of role
– Healthcare Underwriting & Portfolio Management-Vice President:
The Underwriter/Portfolio Manager (UW/PM) position will report to the Credit Risk Executive-Healthcare.
UW/PM will be responsible for monitoring on a timely basis the ongoing financial health of the loan portfolio and borrowers while maintaining the ongoing communication and dialogue with clients in conjunction with the Relationship Manager for all credit related reporting and business updates.
Our Expectations for Someone in this role:
Maintains oversight of a defined Healthcare Portfolio, including all ongoing monitoring requirements and client deliverables as well as compliance with all terms of the loan agreement including (i) Financial Reporting and Covenant Tracking, (ii) Covenant Compliance, (iii) Collateral Monitoring and Borrowing Base Analysis, and (iv) all required third party reports, investigations, and diligence.
Determines account monitoring needs working with the Relationship Managers and Underwriters during the underwriting process.
In coordination with the business teams, maintains direct contact with clients as needed for account monitoring and administration of overdrafts and delinquencies.
Validates and analyzes reports such as Financial Statements, Borrowing Base Certificates, Collateral Field Examinations, Appraisals, Engineering Reports, etc.
to verify compliance.
Escalates issues to appropriate levels and develops action plans as necessary in conjunction with the Credit Risk Executive and Industry Credit Lead.
Prepares an interim Credit Monitoring Report at required intervals as well as an Annual Review of certain relationships as required.
Completes risk rating evaluation as required with input from Relationship Managers on qualitative factors and approval from the Credit Risk Executive and/or Industry Credit Lead.
Performs the underwriting for extensions, modifications, amendments, waivers, new loan increases and ancillary product approvals on existing client relationships as well as new clients at the Credit Risk Executive’s discretion and oversees the legal documentation and closing process.
Prepares all required quarterly reports and analysis including Sensitive Meeting Reports and Problem Loan Reports as well as other portfolio management reports as required.
· Identify applicable Key Risks associated with assigned loan portfolio and new lending opportunities.
Identify factors which mitigate Key Risks or recommend structural enhancements which mitigate Key Risks.
Participates in special projects and requests related to the management of the portfolio.
Maintains existing Client credit files (content both physical and electronic copies) and functions as the point person on content related to Loan Review and Audit.
Identifies possible new loan and credit product selling opportunities and notifies the Relationship Manager accordingly.
Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and directly related experience.
Ideally has at least 5-7 years of healthcare lending experience with a minimum of 3-4 years of direct healthcare portfolio management experience.
Has strong understanding of credit policy and procedures and is able to accurately risk-rate loans/credits, evaluates both cash-flow and collateral-based loans/credits.
Experience with loan structuring and the legal documentation process.
What Success Looks Like for Someone in This Role:
3 months: Acclimate to the team, systems, workflows, processes.
Be introduced to all assigned clients.
6 months: Portfolio Manager should be in regular dialogue regarding the Portfolio, be up to speed on the relationship, make recommendations internally on how to make things better, and bring Ideas/perspective on credit (process & deal improvement).
Be up to speed on all internal portfolio requirements.
12 months: Loan and security documents negotiated and closed with limited oversight
Being able to take on new business opportunities in healthcare, independently create the underwriting from start to finish.
