A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles.
APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities.
As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them.
Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.
APCH COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
A Place Called Home will be mandating COVID-19 vaccines for our staff.
Consistent with our mission and values, and the duty to provide and maintain a workplace free of recognized hazards, A Place Called Home (“APCH”) has adopted this policy to safeguard the health and well-being of our staff and our families, members and their families, volunteers, vendors, and others who spend time on our campus, and the community, from the risks associated with COVID-19.
All new hires must provide proof of their first dose of the vaccine on the first day of employment, if not fully vaccinated, and will have 30 days from their date of hire to complete their COVID-19 vaccination and submit proof of completion to the organization’s HR department.

Job Title: Health Care Aide
Department: Program Operations
Reports to: Director of Program Operations
Hours: 20 hours per week (40 hours during the summer)
SUMMARY:
As part of the Program Operations team, the Health Care Aide (HCA) promotes a healthy after school environment for the emotional and physical safety of students.
The Health Care Aide will be at the front-line for member safety and well being.
The Health Care Aide assesses members who are ill or injured and determines if further medical attention is needed during the after school programming hours (2:00 pm
– 7:00 pm) Monday through Friday.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COVID related responsibilities: The HCA will have the opportunity to standardize processes related to COVID Response and protocols.

Possess basic knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for providing the full continuance of COVID-19 response, including:

Disease Surveillance

Case Investigation
*
Contact Tracing
*
Laboratory Testing (Types of COVID testing available)

Immunizations
*
General Health Practice
*
Provide COVID-19 related health education to staff and members/parents
*
Respond to COVID-19 related inquiries, questions or concerns
*
Assist with daily screenings for COVID-19 risk, per protocol
*
Gather clinical information to facilitate assessment of risk of COVID-19 exposure in a campus setting, such as:
*
temperature screening
*
supervising self-administered testing
*
interviewing for signs/symptoms of COVID-19
*
Manage potentially COVID-positive members in the isolation area:
*
Supervise member
*
Contact families
*
Record activity as needed
*
Initiate Contact Tracing of COVID-19 infections and assist APCH Leadership (HR, EMT, OLG) with continued Contact Tracing needs
*
Manage necessary communication between campus, LA County Public Health, and OSHA (as required)
*
Communicate with Programs Operations with attendance regarding any member sent home due to COVID concerns
*
Communicate with APCH Leadership (HR, EMT, OLG)

Submit notification to LA County Public Health and OSHA (as required)

Utilize protocols to perform decision making related to COVID-19 isolation, quarantine, and testing.

Escalate complex decision making to APCH Leadership (EMT and OLG)

Enforce and ensure Covid-19 health and safety rules and procedures are observed Screen members for Covid-19, secure in sick room to prevent spreading, notify Leadership and families

Perform first aid in emergency situations according to established procedures

Administer first aid for minor injuries
*
Confer with parents about special problems and needs of their children when necessary
*
Examine members for lice or general health problems when necessary
*
Confer with APCH staff on making decisions on members about participation in activities per their health needs
*
Prepare, maintain and replenish first aid kits for various on-site locations and off campus trips
*
Perform other tasks as assigned
Administrative
*
Document all injuries and care rendered
– Maintain medical log, complete incident forms for injuries when required
*
Review all Incident/Accident Reports to identify ways to prevent and reduce incidents, accident and injuries
*
Reports observations to the Chief Program Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Counseling, when appropriate
*
Notify Director of Counseling of health problems and concerns and respond to questions related to member’s health
*
Inventory supplies at beginning and end of each semester and reorder as needed
*
Communicates necessary medical information in a timely manner to appropriate APCH personnel, parents/guardians while maintaining confidentiality

Work with the Membership team to ensure all immunization records are up to date
The ideal APCH Health Care Aide is someone who has a love for helping others and will be an individual who carries high personal and professional standards.
