Environmental Health & Safety Director

Responsibilities

Provide keyleadership within an award-winning health system. Drive initiatives to helpensure the health and safety of UCLA Health patients, families, employees,visitors and more. Leverage your expertise to make a real difference in the livesof others. UCan do all this and more at UCLA Health.

Inthis important role, you will coordinate and oversee a variety of critical safetyprograms, including radiation safety, fire/life safety, chemical safety,hazardous materials management, occupational safety, and more within RonaldReagan UCLA Medical Center, the Mattel Children’s Hospital, the Stewart andLinda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, andall outpatient and administrative/business facilities. Success in this rolerequires close collaboration with other Environmental Health and Safety leaderson campus. You will also oversee all licensing and permitting requirements relatedto hazardous materials, waste generation, emissions, and other areas within ourEnvironment of Care operations. In addition, you will work with our WorkersCompensation management group to take proactive steps to limit employeeinjuries, control costs, and administer the Be Smart About Safety programprovided by the UC Office of the President.

Qualifications

We’reseeking a dedicated and compassionate leader with:

  • Bachelor’s degree – advanced degree preferred
  • Five or more years of combined experience in management and with healthcare-focused environmental health and safety programs
  • HAZWOPER certification
  • CHSP, CHCM, CHFSP, CHMM, CIH, or CSHM certifications desired
  • Ability to build and maintain a climate of trust while inspiring commitment from others
  • Proven track record developing effective hospital safety programs
  • Expertise in all aspects of Environment of Care management, accreditation standards, knowledge of codes, and other environmental requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission, CA Title 22/24, OSHPD, and CalOSHA
  • Exceptional supervisory skills, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and work flow organization
  • Understanding of the management of operational/capital budgets
  • Leadership style that consistently enhances understanding, respect, cooperation and problem solving
  • Ability to drive as well as adapt to change
  • Deep understanding of process improvement approaches and methods
  • Expertise in assessing environmental conditions and implementing corrective actions
