Encino Outpatient Surgery Center: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Or Rn)

Job Description Join a winning team Encino Outpatient Surgery Center (EOSC) is hiring operating room nurses.

EOSC is a boutique outpatient surgical center with heavy emphasis on GI, pain management, ENT and urology.

Ideal candidates will have at least three years OPEATING ROOM experience (please DO NOT apply if you don’t have at least three years’ experience in the OR).

Hours are Monday through Friday.

No weekends, call or holidays.

Days start early usually around 530am.

Must be outgoing, energetic and thrive in a busy outpatient surgical environment.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Operating Room Registered Nurse is knowledgeable in preoperative theory and practice, and provides for and directs the nursing care of patients within the operating room.

Responsible for the supervision of paraprofessional personnel.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Registered Nurse OR: 1.

Is directly accountable to the Director of Nursing.

2.

Works collaboratively with nursing colleagues, medical and anesthesia staff, PAs, CSTs, and the Surgery Secretary/Aide.

3.

Delegates responsibility to non-professional staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1.

Current RN or LPN state licensure.

2.

Recent perioperative experience and/or a completion of a post graduate perioperative nursing course.

CNOR certification preferred.

3.

Three (3) years of perioperative experience in pain management and GI.

4.

Current BCLS certification required.

5.

Current ACLS desired.

6.

Professional organization membership encouraged.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1.

The Operating Room RN must be able to engage in physical activities on a daily basis, including: lifting, turning or supporting an adult patient with the appropriate number of personnel and/or devices; bending and stretching,and lifting up to 20 pounds of inert medical supplies and equipment.

The Operating Room RN must be physically able to perform CPR.

3.

As a direct patient care provider, the Operating Room RN will maintain: a.

Hepatitis immunization (will be provided at no cost to the employee) or documented refusal to be vaccinated.

b.

Evidence of negative Mantoux or chest x-ray annually (will be provided at no cost to the employee).

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.

The Duties of the Operating Room RN include but are not limited to: a.

Utilization of the nursing process to establish and provide for patients needs in the perioperative setting.

b.

Performs the preoperative checklist.

c.

Implements the preoperative checklist.

d.

Implements nursing care in the intraoperative phase.

e.

Coordinates nursing interventions with the other members of the surgical team (i.E.

Surgeon, Anesthesiologist and other personnel).

f.

Performs circulating duties: i.

Provides for the psychological needs to the patient, acts as the Patient’s advocate.

ii.

Supervises and assists paraprofessional in room.

iii.

Assists Surgeons and Anesthesiologists as necessary.

iv.

Completes Intraoperative Nursing Record.

v.

Assures that acceptable standards of patient care are followed.

vi.

Maintains sterile field, initiating corrective action when breaks in sterile technique occur.

vii.

Provides necessary equipment and supplies to all members of the surgical team.

viii.

Performs and records sponge and needle counts.

ix.

Monitors the physiologic status of the patient during local cases.

x.

Monitors the environment (i.E., temperature, humidity, noise level).

xi.

Assures a safe environment (i.E., safety straps, electrosurgical grounding, maintenance of equipment).

xii.

Provides for patient confidentiality and privacy.

xiii.

Accompanies the patient to the recovery room and gives an oral report concerning the patient’s condition and operative procedure.

g.

Assists with clean up of room between procedures and the end of the schedule.

h.

Restocks and replaces supplies used.

i.

Assists in admitting.

j.

Assists in recovery room.

k.

Participates in preoperative interviews.

l.

Observes and enforces cost containment practices with effective utilization of time and materials.

m.

Shares and performs assigned duties necessary for the Surgery Center operations (i.E., ordering supplies, equipment checks).

n.

Attends staff meeting and in-services.

o.

Follows medical/legal policies governing the Surgery Center at all times.

p.

Maintains and upgrades standards of performance and education.
