Educational Therapist

Under the supervision of the Manager of Educational Therapy, provides direct and indirect educational services to children with learning difficulties. These services include psycho-educational evaluation and assessment, diagnostic and prescriptive interventions to remediate specific auditory and visual processing disorders, various academic challenges, provide educational advocacy support and coordination of school/home/therapy continuity and

coordination.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect educational services and support to children and adolescents with learning disabilities or difficulties, one to one and in group settings, utilizing various learning methodologies and modalities.
  • Administer diagnostic evaluations, analyze and interpret educational data to develop student’s learning profile.
  • Develop and implement prescriptive learning plans to address outlined learning objectives established through various forms of assessment.
  • Maintain on-going progress monitoring notes and evaluation to determine student’s response to interventions.
  • Educate and assist parents or guardians in advocating for appropriate educational placement, instruction and services, utilizing both state and federal special education laws.
  • Relate and communicate with children, parents, school personnel, and other allied professionals as it pertains to social emotional well-being and prevailing educational needs.
  • Provide formal trainings and presentations to small and large, internal/external audiences.
  • Provide community outreach and consultation within the purview of core competencies to schools, and/or community organizations.
  • Maintain Educational Therapy/ Professional (ET/P) level designation.
  • Perform other duties to assist in implementation and execution of the Center’s mission and vision as assigned.

    Education

    • Eligible candidate must achieve and maintain Educational Therapy/Professional (ET/P) designation within 18 months of employment
    • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Educational Therapy, or Reading Instruction or
    • Reading Specialist Certification (this certification also requires a master’s in education) or
    • Pupil Personnel Service Credential in School Psychology (this credential also requires a master’s in education, educational psychology, or school psychology)
    • OR
    • Master’s Degree in a related field with Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P) designation

    License, Certification, Registration

    Additional Requirements:

    • Bilingual may be required- – if so, must pass QBS1 with a passing score..
    • Eligible candidate must pass or have passed the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) Written Examination as a condition of employment
    • Eligible candidate must clear health screening report, Livescan clearance, child abuse index check, criminal record statement.
    • Ability to organize and implement multiple projects, tasks and learning opportunities
    • Experienced in administering both formal and informal academic assessments for K-12 population within the last two years.
    • Experienced in prescribing and administering evidenced-based reading interventions for K-12 population within the last two years.
    • Knowledge of various learning methodologies and modalities.
    • Knowledge of both state and federal special education laws.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Board Certified Educational Therapist (BCET)
    • Two (2) years of Educational Therapy experience
    • Five (5) years experience working as a special education teacher, resource specialist, reading specialist or intervention teacher
    • Master’s Degree in Special Education with Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P) designation
    • Bilingual preferred (Spanish). 

    Notes: This position may require working some evenings and Saturdays.
