Director Pharmacy Services, Ambulatory

The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for planning, development and efficient operations of specified pharmacy services across the Medical Center.

The Director will work with the Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy to provide direction to UTSW pharmacy services to include business development, operations, clinical services, pharmacy data analytics, and pharmacy procurement.

The Director provides oversight and directs strategic initiatives pertaining to medications aimed at driving cost reduction efforts and achieving excellence in clinical quality and customer service for respective facilities.

The Director will be expected to establish and update operational procedures that increase productivity, reduce costs and maintain the highest quality of clinical standards.

This individual must introduce efficiencies into the operations and a customer service focus, while ensuring consistency of quality delivery on both campuses.

The Director will be expected to provide leadership to these assigned business units and infuse a sense of responsibility and commitment to excellence.

The Director may be responsible for operations, clinical programs, ambulatory care services, quality/safety programs, inpatient services or otherwise assigned.

Experience and Education Ten (10) years progressively responsible, related experience to include at least three (3) years in supervisory capacity is required.

Speciality pharmacy and/or infusion leadership experience highly preferred.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy Accredited Residency training preferred Board Certification or advanced training preferred Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Job Duties Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual performance improvement targets.

Meets or exceeds financial goals and objectives of the specified areas of the pharmacy department.

Productivity target compliance and development of activities within areas of responsibility that are patient centered and improve outcomes Provide direction, expertise, and leadership for the UTSWMC pharmacy services staff.

Select qualified personnel and provide for their on-going training and development.

Assure that duties, responsibilities, and authority of each job are clearly defined and communicated.

Serve as the Project Manager responsible for development, feasibility assessment, project planning and implementation of pharmacy initiatives.

Responsible for development of clinical work teams to focus on specific initiatives to benefit the UTSWMC.

Provides justification and pharmacoeconomics analysis to best practice conversions.

Develops goals, objectives, and budgets that support the pharmacy services mission of UTSWMC.

Directs the implementation of short and long-term operational strategies for specified areas of the pharmacy department.

Reviews management reports (including standard monthly operating reporting, productivity, benchmarking, etc.) providing insights, action required and explaining key takeaways.

Works with AVP of Pharmacy Services, Directors of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Managers and appropriate committees to improve clinical resource utilization to improve drug therapy management Responsibilities may include one or more of the following core functions: operations, clinical programs, ambulatory care services, quality/safety programs, inpatient services or otherwise assigned.
