Reporting to our Chief People Officer, this highly visible position requires a professional demeanor, and ability to work with employees at all levels of the Company. You will lead programs to manage compliance in the areas of Health & Safety, Business Continuity, Environment, and Physical Security. As a trusted advisor you will be action oriented and have highly developed influencing skills to ensure management commitment and organizational adherence to applicable standards.

What you’ll be doing:

Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement with regards to safety, security, environment, and business continuity at IMAX. 

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to key internal stakeholders on matters related to OH&S (i.e., Human Resources, Facilities, Quality, Senior leadership, and Technology).
  • Identify and evaluate potential environmental, health and safety, business continuity and security risks
  • Interpret and advise on applicable legislation; ensure that the organization operates in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements in all operational jurisdictions.
  • Confidently lead programs in a technology environment that includes engineering, research and development, manufacturing, and film post production activities.
  • Lead implementation of preventive/corrective actions resulting from reflective learnings and risk assessments.
  • Manage compliance training program
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis and lead implementation of corrective actions.
  • Conduct proper accident reporting, both internally and externally, including to regulatory bodies (i.e., WSIB in Ontario).
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for your areas of responsibility
  • Conduct regularly scheduled reviews of statistical data and complete trend analysis. Produce risk metrics to measure the effectiveness of programs
  • Identify and assess trends and implement proactive strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Track, assess and report key performance indicators to Senior Management.
  • Provide leadership to disaster recovery & continuity management planning and response programs.
  • Develop corporate resilience when faced with new threats to continuity.
  • Work with the Laser Safety Officer in implementation and management of laser safety program for IMAX. (IMAX will offer training specific to laser safety requirement)

Communications

  • Develop communications that build a culture of quality and compliance in the organization.
  • Communicate with top leadership, in areas of risk and incident response
  • Develop communications plans to support HSSE programs.
  • Provide content for company intranet, including policies, forms, and other messaging
  • Lead emergency communication system – setup, administration, compliance, implementation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible relevant experience including developing and implementing policies, programs and procedures in a complex technical environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
  • Strong knowledge of legislation, regulations and requirements
  • Strong knowledge of management systems including ISO
  • Broad knowledge of international Health & Safety requirements (i.e. OSHA)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) an asset
  • Experience leading emergency management and business continuity processes

  • An out of the box thinker, who will tackle issues with a risk based approach, work effectively under stress, and loves a challenge

  • Capable of performing well in a fast-paced, fluid, dynamic and somewhat unstructured environment.
