Every day, we put our vision and our values into practice as we strive to improve healthcare for uniquely underserved population.DEFINITION:Plans, organizes and directs a program of clinical social work services for inpatients, outpatients, and their families at a very large County medical center.Essential Job FunctionsPlans, organizes and directs the clinical and/or psychiatric social work services.Evaluates existing and future clinical and/or psychiatric social work service needs in order to establish goals, objectives and standards for the provision of clinical and/or psychiatric social work services.Delegates to first level supervisors the responsibility for implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of the programs, policies, and procedures pertaining to the delivery of social work services to patients and their families as well as those pertaining to the licensure and certification of professional social work staff.Develops policies and procedures pertaining to the delivery of clinical and/or psychiatric social work services to patients and their families as well as those pertaining to the licensure and certification of professional social work staff.Participates with hospital administration, medical administration, and professional staff of other disciplines in the formulation of programs, policies, and procedures to integrate and coordinate services.Conducts periodic quality assurance meetings with subordinate staff to establish, document, and review quality improvement tends and to implement plans for improvement.Evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors and reviews all performance evaluations completed by subordinate supervisors.Interviews, selects or approves final appointments of applicants for all clinical and/or psychiatric social work service positions.Provides advice to subordinate supervisors and makes final determinations to resolve employee utilization issues, grievances, and disciplinary actions.Oversees and directs the development of employee orientation and in-service training and student affiliate programs.Interprets social work policies, programs, and procedures to other disciplines, departments, and agencies, organizations and the public.Serves as a technical resource person to community organizations, agencies, and allied health personnel concerning clinical and/or psychiatric social work services and represents the hospital in community meetings concerned with health care services.Reviews preliminary budget information prepared by supervisory staff and determines budgetary requirements for personnel, equipment, and supplies for clinical and/or psychiatric social work services.Compiles the annual budget with justifications for review by the appropriate authority in hospital administration.Directs the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports to ensure quality and accountability in the social work services provided.RequirementsSELECTION REQUIREMENTS:A Master’s Degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education followed by nine (9) years of professional medical or psychiatric social work experience in a recognized social service agency, clinic, hospital, or public health agency.

Five (5) years of the experience must have been in a supervisory, consultative or administrative capacity at the level of the County of Los Angeles classifications of Clinical Social Work Supervisor ll* or Mental Health Clinical Supervisor**.LICENSE:A valid and active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.License/Certificate Information:In the license/certificate section of your application, be sure to give the title of your required certificate, number, date issued, date of expiration and the name of the issuing agency.PHYSICAL CLASS II:Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting.

Considerable walking may be involved.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:*Experience at the level of Clinical Social Work Supervisor II in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: supervises the work of professional social work and support staff providing clinical social work services to patients and their families in a small County hospital, a unit of a large County hospital, a large ambulatory care center, or the Children’s Medical Services program.**Experience at the level of Mental Health Clinical Supervisor in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: supervises and coordinates multidisciplinary and ancillary support staff in the provision of mental health services to clients.Additional InformationEXAMINATION CONTENT:This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information weighted 100%.Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:Applications will be processed on an “as-received” basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be added on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.VACANCY INFORMATION:The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Department of Health Services.SPECIAL INFORMATION:Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.AVAILABLE SHIFT: AnyAPPLICATION AND FILING INFORMATION:APPLICATIONS MUST BE FILED ONLINE ONLY.
