Job SummaryThe Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the planning, organizing, developing, implementing, facilitating and evaluation all Nursing/ Clinical education programs throughout the facility, in accordance with Pacific Gardens Medical Center’s policies, current applicable federal, state, local standards, guidelines and regulations to assure that the highest degree of quality patient/resident care can be maintained at all times. This position provides clinical education and evaluation to nursing and other patient care staff, and facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area of nursing. Directly reports to the CNO, ACNO, DON for all coordination of discipline services and/or any education and development specific or corporate functions processes or initiatives. The Clinical Nurse Educator provides education and training as well as support and guidance to ensure that all staff can meet their specific job requirements.QualificationsProfessional Experience and Education:* 3 + years nursing supervision (long term care setting preferred)* Educator in nursing practices* Registered Nurse and a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing* BSN preferredCertification/Licensure:* Active licensed Registered Nurse in assigned state(s) of employment* BLS upon hire and ACLS certification within 60 days of hire.* Holds membership in professional education and nursing associations – desirableKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:* Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical protocol, procedures, and standards within area of nursing expertise.* Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty.* Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.* Working knowledge of the use of established clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs.* Technical leadership skills within area of expertise.* Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.* Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.* Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.Duties and Responsibilities* Provides educational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established clinical protocols.* Understands and applies OBRA Regulations.* Understands and applies principles of adult learning.* Works in collaboration with all department directors in the orientation and education of staff to ensure all mandatory and regulatory education requirements are met within the facility.* Conducts competencies in areas of nursing practice with attention to management of the medically complex patient, i.e. cardiac, heart failure, stroke, respiratory care needs (such as tract, vent, i.e.).* Regularly conducts education needs assessment for facilities to assist in identifying areas for improvement.* Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the in-service educational programs as required or directed for compliance with Federal, OSHA, State and Accreditation Regulations and company policy.* Ensure Integrity of educational programs offered within the facility by:* Preparations, scheduling and selection of instructional material, equipment and training aids, to ensure that a state of art, meaningful in-service program is provided utilizing the corporate approved forms and documentation.* Schedule and communicates in-service training programs according to the needs of facility.* Ensures that required serviceable equipment and knowledgeable operator are available to present special in-service material as directed.* Conducts regular scheduled meetings and education to all staff within the facility.* Ensures that in-service training classrooms or areas are properly prepared before training classes begin.* Recommend to the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department.* Assess the learning needs of the staff through direct observation, formal learning assessment and indirectly through review of quality improvement and or program evaluation.* Maintains attendance and documentation of in-services in accordance with regulatory guidelines and corporate policies.* Assist licensed/certified nursing personnel (i.e., RNs and CNA) in obtaining in-service training to keep their license/certification current in accordance with state law and corporate policy.* Obtain certification as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association and provide CPR certification for designated employee.* Serves employees to be mentored into both personal and career advancement towards leadership position within the corporation* Mentors and tracks identified employee as he/she develops into new positions.* Encourages personnel to get involved in planning programs, trying new ideas, etc., to enhance our educational in-service programs.* Maintains a productive working relationship with the medical professionals and other health related facilities and organizations.* Creates and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.* Promotes the morale of all personnel and maintain a spirit of cooperation.* Assists in setting standards for department personnel.* Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals and attending professional seminars.* Attend and participate in professional associations’ activities and programs, to assure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures.
