Position Summary:

Manages and supervises the day to day functions of the cardiac catheterization lab, Interventional Radiology and Cardiology and oversees the daily operations of the STEMI care delivery on patient quality of life, physician and nurse enrichment/satisfaction, error reduction, length of stay measures and patient care resources management. Develops goals, policies and procedures; prepares and submits the operating and capital expenditure budgets for the cardiac cath lab, Interventional radiology and cardiology Participates in CQI and performance improvement activities.

Supervises the functions and duties of the cardiovascular radiologic technicians in their duties scrubbing into procedures and performing imaging functions.
Develops and maintains community and staff education programs actively participating in local specialty specific conferences and nursing education and STEMI care. Ensures quality of patient care by developing, monitoring, and evaluating clinical protocols, standards of care and practice, policies and procedures.
Coordinates clinical practice to maximize patient outcomes and to accomplish the strategic objectives of the organization.
Evaluates staff clinical abilities and makes recommendations to nurse leadership.
Complies with the current TJC and title 22 other regulatory state and federal requirements for nursing personnel.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist physicians monitoring, collecting, and processing physiological data during diagnostic heart catheterization.
Operates cath lab imaging system in all modalities, including x-ray table and all features of computerized analysis software system.
Demonstrate knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/ or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.
Shares responsibilities with the Medical Director in the areas of equipment, personnel, supplies, budget, space, infection control, safety, preventative maintenance, record keeping, federal, state and regular agency compliance and emergency preparedness.
Directs actions toward supervision of nursing care given to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients within the Cardiac Cath Laboratory and Recovery Room according to nursing principles.
Participates in administrative decision making; assists with establishing policies and procedures designed to ensure the provision and appropriateness of patient care.
Recommends and evaluates staffing plans to assure sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide patient care. Assures presence of RNs for all procedures and the recovery room.
Develops, implements and evaluated programs to promote recruitment, retention development and continuing education of nursing and technician staff.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Works with the Medical Director on balancing the quality and cost effectiveness of Cardiac Cath Laboratory services.
Participates in management meetings to keep the Administration informed of operations of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory, concerns, problems.
Conducts monthly staff meetings to review new policies and procedures, problems. Encourages staff to participate in problem solving.
Reviews the Cardiac Cath Laboratory’s performance and institutes changes in procedures to improve patient care, assures compliance with regulatory agencies and promotes more efficient operation of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.
Develops standards of performance, determines areas of responsibility, assigns responsibility and accountability and delegates authority to managerial and professional members of the staff.
Participates in the hiring and termination of staff; implements organizational changes.
Participates in quality and performance improvement programs. Attends all Cath Lab education meetings.

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited RN Nursing Program
AA degree in nursing required

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred
Minimum two years progressive lead experience in the field of expertise
Minimum three years’ experience in cardiac catheterization/ IR
Minimum of five years’ experience in an acute care setting
Ability to deal with multiple priority and short time frames
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work in a union environment.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

Current California RN license
Current BLS card
Current ACLS card
Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment).
