Clinical Assistant and Surgery Scheduler

This is a Contract position in Los Angeles, CA posted November 19, 2020.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for patients scheduling, admissions, and therapeutic procedures:obtaining insurance authorizations, answer, screen and respond to incomingcalls, prepare all documentation, charts, encountering and other informationneeded for physician clinics.

You will also prepare allnecessary documents and forward to appropriate departments including insuranceauthorizations, charge documents and reconciliations and disability and worker’scompensation forms. You will explain charges to patients and assist patients withbilling questions, communicated directly with department billing and PhysicianSupport Services. You will also serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, nursingunits and other UCLA departments.

Other responsibilities include: preparing daily, weekly and monthly reports, asneeded.

Qualifications

Required:

  • General knowledge of third party insurances, government programs and otherinsurance agencies for purposes of assigning financial class codes andobtaining any necessary authorizations for treatment.
  • Ability toresearch medical diagnosis and procedure codes in CPT Code book and ICD-9_CMcode book.
  • Demonstratedcomputer skills including word-processing, use of spreadsheets and data entry. 
  • Abilityto understand and correctly use technical terminology, correctly identify and extractdata from hospital records, enter data on flow sheets or in computer andmaintain studyrecords.
  • Abilityto communicate effectively with medical, nursing and administrative personnel,regulatory agencies and study sponsors, both verbally and via written reportsand memos.
  • Skilland experience in operating office machines including hospital based computer systems,EMR system.
  • Skilland experience in composing clear and understandable written memos and reports using correct grammar.
  • Skill inprioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Skill incommunicating with patients, families and referring physicians with diplomacy.
  • Knowledge ofmedical terminology, particularly urology.
  • Ability toestablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians,residents, research associates, fellows, students and staff, as well as outsidegranting agencies.
  • Superior typingskills to prepare correspondence, reports and other written materials withspeed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work flexiblehours and travel to department clinics, as assigned.

Preferred:

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of cancer treatment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of UCLA School of Medicine and hospital nursing processes 
  • Knowledge of UCLA patient management system & UCLA scheduling systems
  • Bachelor’sdegree
