Title: Medical Assistant
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:2 years experience with a substance abuse population and 12-step model, and must be registered or certified with a certifying board such as CCAPP or CAADAC, and 3 years of sobriety if recovering; and provide current California Medical Assistant license (or higher or equivalent license), current CPR/First Aid certification, must have current TB or X-Ray clearance.
Reports to: Program Director
Basic Functions:Overseeing of recovery technician with Medical Assistant performed duties specifically centered around medication protocol and administrative tasks are complete. Interactions with clients medication concerns as a liaison between them and the doctor, ensures staff and clients program compliance of medication rules and regulations, exercises good role modeling, and demonstrates proper code of ethics and protocol of documentation.
Job Competencies: Job Competencies:Introductory-level clinical knowledge of inpatient treatment, proficient in computer programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook email application), consistent record keeping, average customer service skills, good interpersonal skills with clients and co-workers, basic knowledge of UDS, good knowledge of AA/12-Step program, able to utilize and navigate online portals, proficient at safely driving a passenger van. Establish rapport, Screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms. Screen for danger to self or others, demonstrate adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct, and participate in continuing professional development.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts orientation to new Medical Assistant staff.
- Monitors clients charts.
- Ensures clients medications are being taken as ordered by the doctor.
- Maintains a regular medication count to check staff.
- Oversees all medical appointments with outside providers.
- Ensures all medications are ordered in a timely fashion.
- Auditing physical charts and the MAR in KIPU.
- Weekly medication counts and orders.
- Handling pharmacy payments with currents and past clients.
- Training new nurses as well as re-training with current staff members on medication. protocol/administration.
- Communicating with the doctors and the pharmacy on any changes with clients.
- Communicating with UR on detox dates for current detox clients.
- Facilitates Recovery Technician trainings on medication management.
- Coordinates pickups and drop offs of medication from approved pharmacies.
- Observes and monitors clients behavior and intervenes based on schedule, individual clients treatment plan and facility needs.
- Coordinates milieu treatment with counseling staff (via client record, staff communication, and counseling/staff meetings).
- Writes in staff shift log (including check-in and check-out as well as a summary of the shift events).
- Transports clients per supervisors directives (for court, doctors appointments, ancillary services, etc.).
- Supervises self-administration of client medications as well as observing staffs abilities in this area.
- Provides 1:1 supervision of at-risk clients (ATA risk, suicidal ideation, etc.) per directive from Supervisor.
- Follows emergency procedures exactly (including paging protocol, etc.)
- Provides ATA (Against Treatment Advice), prevention including 1:1 counseling, notification of assigned counselor and immediate notification of Supervisor or a Counselor, whenever a client talks about leaving the program.
- Oversees the UDS system in place and ensures that UDS are being conducted regularly and properly.
- Meets with CLIA sponsor annually to review Waived Testing requirements, policies and procedures. Add to Nursing Supervisors job description.
- Required to participate on the QA&I Committee
- Other duties assigned by Supervisor.
