Job Summary

The Associate Dean of Education represents a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to create an educational training environment built on inter-professional innovation and University values. The Associate Dean is responsible for the management and oversight of the medical program for the College of Medicine educational program leading to the MD degree. This role will work in collaboration with, the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Medical Student Affairs.

The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean, College of Medicine.

Essential Duties

The Associate Dean’s position requires a dynamic and visionary individual with demonstrated experience in medical education, educational strategy and creative leadership; including ten years of increasingly responsible educational/leadership positions in a medical school with a strong record of success.

  • M.D. preferred or doctorate equivalent in Medical school health science discipline and experience in Medical Education administration with a sustained record of scholarly activity.
  • Credentials to support the rank of Professor in an appropriate academic unit.
  • National recognition as evidenced by involvement in academic and educational societies at national level.
  • He/she will be an outstanding scholar possessing intellectual breadth, who is able to articulate a vision for the College of Medicine; assert strong leadership to guide the College toward their future goals and objectives.
  • He/she must have a history of successful educational leadership experience, preferably as an Associate Dean or equivalent, in academic settings as well as the political acumen to navigate a complex academic structure.
  • An individual with an understanding and record of educational scholarship including evaluation of educational innovations.
  • He/she will have the ability and experience in developing a College of Medicine level strategic plan, developing a related budget, and achieving results against plan objectives and budget requirements.
  • He/she will have exceptional management skills with a proven ability to motivate, work well with others, and develop a team-focused department coupled with the ability to build strong, productive relationships at all levels of an organization and with outside organizations to achieve defined goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Regionally accredited doctoral degree required; and/or equivalent of combined education and experience in the related field. Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) is preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in an education or University program.
  • Experience teaching, advising and mentoring students.
  • Experience with curriculum design and program evaluation.

  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, delegate.
  • Ability to work with team and independently.
  • Ability to mediate conflict.
  • PC proficient with strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Database management skills.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Ability to network with various individuals and organizations
  • Strong technical ability and familiarity working with various software
