General thoracic surgeons applying for this position must have the skills and interest in general thoracic surgery, exclusively, with a strong emphasis in lung transplant. The position is part of our expanding Thoracic Surgery Division.This role will offer the opportunity for the candidate to work closely with all of the members in the Division of Thoracic Surgery and particularly work closely with the current Surgical Director of the Lung Transplant program. Candidates will be expected to work within the context of a Lung Transplant program that will consist of multidisciplinary care providers. In this capacity there will be clinical, teaching, administrative, and research expectations. Additional roles and positions will be available commensurate with the growth of the program.Qualified candidates will be expected to possess Lung Transplant surgery skills as well as advanced skills in general thoracic surgery. In an order to complement the current transplant program, it would be desirable for the candidate to have gained experience with extracorporeal lung preservation or rehabilitation technologies. Additionally, there is a specific desire to work with a candidate who has the expertise and capabilities to work in a transplant program interested in developing expanded donor and recipient criteria for the purposes of programmatic growth (e.g., DCD and COPD patients, respectively). Advanced thoracic surgery skills should include familiarity with all minimally invasive approaches for lung, mediastinal, esophageal, and chest wall operations including but not limited to the thoracoscopic, robotic and uniportal platforms. While the Lung Transplant duties will be carried out predominantly at Keck Medical Center, additional thoracic surgery duties will be associated with travel and coverage of other hospitals in the greater Los Angeles and surrounding areas.Qualified applicants must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery or must be of an equivalent status if arriving from outside of the United States.
