Public Policy Coordinator/Analyst

Under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Public Policy & Government Relations, the Coordinator/Analyst provides legislative research, policy analysis, mission planning, written reports, legislative updates, and support for the Public Policy & Government Relations and Philanthropy California team.

The Coordinator will play a key role in executing public policy strategy and contributing to the overall success of the organization.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate seeking increased responsibility and exposure as compared to an entry-level public policy position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft policy issue briefs, position papers, articles for SCG’s Public Policy Round-up, correspondence with public policy makers, and analysis of proposed legislation or regulations.

Monitor the status of public policy priorities, including legislative and administrative actions, utilizing online legislative research, and attending and reporting on legislative hearings, mark-ups, and coalition meetings.

Assist in planning the annual Washington, DC, and Sacramento, CA advocacy trips for SCG members, Philanthropy CA, and community leaders.

Research policy issues and serve as lead on key domestic policy issues, including health and human services, social services, and safety net programs, and make recommendations to the Director.

Maintain up-to-date awareness and deep knowledge of relevant legislative initiatives and policy developments.

Program planning includes content development and logistical coordination such as speaker confirmation, meeting spaces and other administrative duties.

In addition, drafting and preparing materials such as talking points, policy papers, biographies, and additional background information for participants.

Gathers background and research on state legislation.

Represents organization through direct interaction with membership on state legislative issues.

Support planning and execution of internal and external meetings and events including invitations, registration lists, and other logistics.

Work with other SCG, Northern California Grantmakers, and Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial County staff in collaboration on Philanthropy CA initiatives.

Provides support for the Vice President, Public Policy & Government Relations including managing stakeholder requests, and other tasks as needed.

All other duties as assigned.
