The Enterprise Data Platform team is responsible for providing the data infrastructure for transactional, operational and analytical needs, providing an authoritative data source for the company via the datalake and a core set of data platform services including AI/ML to increase business agility.

The teams charter is to modernize our platform by accelerating our path to public cloud, distributing data geographically to comply by regulations enforced by local jurisdiction while ensuring we treat data risk management as a core lifestyle.

In this newly-formed role you will be responsible for overseeing the technical strategy, designs, and tech-debt roadmaps for the software applications making up a PayPal platform, reporting directly to the Vice President/Sr Director responsible for the platform.

You will also co-ordinate the activities of the lead design engineers associated with the platform.

You will be responsible for defining the technical strategy for the platform as a whole, working with engineering leaders and product stakeholders.

As a member of the platform engineering delivery team, you will be an architect with “skin in the game” of practical delivery who also judiciously balances long-term design with near-term delivery pressure.

You also will be expected to ensure your platforms’ adherence to enterprise architecture standards and to bring modern coding methodologies and best practices to the platforms’ engineering teams.

You will participate as a member of the extended Enterprise Architecture Council and have a dotted line reporting relationship to your platform’s Group Platform Architect.

Regular interaction with Enterprise Architecture community is an important part of the role, and you will be a key contributor to the enterprise architecture standards, as well as communicating those standards to the platform architects and engineering leaders.

The ideal candidate will have a deep technology background, years of hands-on software development experience and strong platform thinking.

The candidate will have experience working in public cloud, experience building and using AI/ML and other core platform services.

You must be passionate about solving hard technical problems at scale and must have an ability to collaborate with many teams and stakeholders to move the big rocks forward.

This role will partner at scale with stakeholders across the enterprise, lead hundreds of others through influence and provide guidance in executing tech platform consolidation, convergence and reengineering.

Finally, the ideal candidate must have a proven record of leading efforts to solve large, complex problems while setting a compelling vision to gather support from all stakeholders, navigating competing technical and product requirements and balancing both immediate tactical needs and long-term success.

Responsibilities: Work with engineering leadership and engineers across multiple teams to identify technical improvements and efficiencies that will advance and simplify our technology stack and engineering practices Work with the Chief Enterprise Architect, other Group and Platform Architects across the company to develop, enhance, and publicize core enterprise architectural standards and best practices Work with engineering and product leadership in influencing the technical strategy and getting a buy in from respective stakeholders Skillset and requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) Track record leading, developing, and delivering significant, complex software projects within complex organizations Strong technical background as hands-on software engineer Expertise in designing and delivering large scale distributed systems Experience designing and building cloud native applications on public clouds (ideally GCP and AWS) Experience with high-performance data storage tiers, relational and No-SQL Demonstrable in-depth experience with Java, node.js Experience in software release lifecycle with modern distributed version control (e.g.
