Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for a System Architecture & Requirements Engineer (Level 4, 5, or 6) to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) located in Seal Beach, CA; with options to work from El Segundo, CA; or Aurora, CO, to support development of new first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning various technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world’s first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which recently completed its sixth and most ambitious flight yet.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical lead and core point of contact for customers

  • Operate with limited direction and open trade space; be comfortable with ambiguity

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts in multiple technology areas and mission domains

  • Shape system architecture and derive system requirements that map our customer’s needs to achievable technical solutions in the space domain

  • Define internal/external interfaces and align requirements to the system concept of operations

  • Manage the technical baseline throughout the Systems Engineering ‘V’/program life cycle to ensure that requirements can be validated/verified

  • Develop a plan, work proactively/independently, communicate effectively, report status, and lead small teams to achieve the scope of work

  • Develop and present review packages to internal and external senior leadership

  • Support new business and proposal development

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 5+ years of experience with systems engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Senior (Level 5): 10+ years of experience with systems engineering

  • Principal (Level 6): 15+ years of experience with systems engineering

  • Experience using systems engineering tools like DOORS and Cameo

  • Experience in spacecraft, launch vehicles, ground systems, and/or highly autonomous unmanned systems

Typical Education/Experience:

Lead (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Principal (Level 6):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range (Lead, Level 4): $119,850 – $173,650

Summary Pay Range (Senior, Level 5): $147,050 – $212,750

Summary Pay Range (Principal, Level 6): $174,250 – $251,850

To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
