The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Senior Payload Architects Manager located in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Systems Engineering.

Primary Engineering responsibilities include the following for both commercial and government programs: Architecture trades, performance analysis, requirements flowdown, functional decomposition, and integration and test of complex real time DSP and Digital Comm solutions that will be implemented in FPGAs/ASICs for satellite spaced based applications. This person will be working with other Systems Engineering and HW organizations to optimize processes across organizations to reduce cycle time and improve first pass quality.

Position Responsibilities Include:
Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Systems Engineering.

Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.

Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.

Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.

Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

Manages, develops and motivates employees.

Will be working with other Systems Engineering and HW organizations to optimize processes across organizations to reduce cycle time and improve first pass quality.

Development and maintenance of the Payload cost model.

Development of Payload cost bids for proposals.

Fielding Senior Payload Architects across the various programs and new business activities.

Development of Payload Architects through mentoring and coaching on programs.

Supply IRT members to support major reviews on programs and IR&D developments.

Primary Responsibilities:
Development of a robust pipeline of Payload Architects with experience ranging from new hires to people with greater than 30 years of experience.

Supporting critical program staffing and redeployment activities, and identification of Payload Architect strategic skills.

Development and execution of a robust training and development plan for Payload Architects.

Development of employee engagement activities to motivate and engage the workforce.

Additional duties:
Serve as a technical leader to drive and develop payload architectures for both commercial and government Spacecraft Systems.

Serve as domain expertise for Payload Architectures on the various program developments.

Collaborate with cross functional Systems Engineering and HW departments to drive process improvements.

Support new business development activities.

Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.

Performs employee performance management, hiring, retention, raise, awards/recognition, and goal setting.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret/SCI or Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering or technical field

10+ years of experience working with digital communications

10+ years of experience working on satellite or space-based communication systems

5+ years of experience in engineering leadership

5+ years of experience in conducting requirement and functional analyses to derive and flow down requirements

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
