Senior Electrical Engineer

Arcadis has an immediate need for a Senior Electrical Engineer with experience in designing electrical power systems to join our Los Angeles, CA office.

Using your technical capabilities and collaborating with our experienced team of professionals, you will provide technical and design consulting services with a focus on electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding design to support projects for our Resilience Water Business Line.

You will also manage tasks and oversee the work of junior staff.

The ideal candidate must be performance-driven, possess a strong educational background and must be able to work productively, both independently and as a contributing member of a collaborative team.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support projects and clients in the planning, design and construction of water/wastewater facilities.

Development of project/task scopes, schedules, and budget for new projects.

Development of project management skills including support in managing budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.

Electrical design and coordination of various projects simultaneously with an emphasis on medium and low voltage power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding for water/wastewater projects.

Close, highly interactive coordination with our Control Systems group.

Establishing design criteria, performing design calculations, developing one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans and specifications.

Performing engineering services during construction, including reviewing equipment submittals, shop drawings and responding to contractor RFIs (request for information).

Conducting field inspections, overseeing projects in construction which includes identifying deviations from design, performing general QA/QC of completed work, and monitoring safety compliance.

Performing system analysis using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software.

At a minimum, provide engineering responsibility for staff using these software packages to publish a power systems study with arc flash hazard analysis.

Some travel will be required to support project needs, mainly in the southern California area (approx.

5 to 10% of time).

 Key Attributes

Strong experience in the municipal Water/Wastewater industry.

Client relationship skills

Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and other related NFPA codes.

Willingness and desire to mentor junior/staff electrical engineers and technicians.

Excellent, clear and concise, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams effectively to complete projects on time and on budget.

Ability to balance multiple assignments and activities to meet project deadlines.

Additional Skills:

Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

Basic understanding of AutoCAD.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project and Outlook).

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Solid working knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Field Instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as they relate to electrical design.

Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations

Experience using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, preferably with an emphasis on power.

10 years minimum of relevant work experience

Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in California.

Preferred Qualifications:

15 years or more of relevant work experience
