Research and Development Mechanical Engineer

Job OverviewThe responsibility of this function is to lead efforts regarding developing and procuring machine specifications, develop Bill of Materials and final specifications, design parts and assemblies using 3D CAD, and create machine specific documentation packages for customer use.

Additionally, the position provides leadership and project management expertise to the process of building and assembling tufting machines and is a technical support resource to all CMC departments.Job DescriptionEssential Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Procure, compile, and distribute machine specification package
· Develop BOM for new machines
· Present a “team first” attitude combined with respect for the company mission, values, and vision
· Create parts and/or assemblies to meet customer needs
· Create, compile, and publish machine specific parts manuals
· Serve as Project Manager for assigned machines
· Schedule and lead BOM Pre-release, pre-build, and pre-ship meetings
· Create customer requested engineering information, such as layout drawings
· Support the Product Development department with engineering support as related to new developments
· Support the Service Department addressing in-field issues and requests
· Manage problem reports and execute change requests regarding error corrections and potential product / process improvements
· Evaluate / revise existing mechanical BOM subassemblies
· Participate / lead improvement efforts and projects
· Provide design and documentation support to develop new machining fixture designs and processes
· Facilitate compliance with OSHA, and CE requirements
· Provide engineering technical support for assembly and debug of machinery.
· Provide engineering technical support to service department.Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Mechanical Engineering degree preferred

· Knowledge and / or experience in a metal working type environment
· Able to function as a team leader or team member
· Possess knowledge of standard practices for mechanical documentation
· Have knowledge of standard machine shop practices, tolerances and fits
· Have knowledge of and / or experience with using the concepts of Lean
· Proficient in the use of PTC Creo 3D modeling software and PTC Windchill PDM
· Experience with an ERP system Physical RequirementsThis position does require frequent visits to the manufacturing and assembly areas.

There are no specific physical requirements, but lifting up to 40 pounds might be required on a very infrequent basis as part of assisting other CMC personnel.

The majority of the incumbent’s time is in an office environment, with most of this time sitting at a computer (CAD) station.

Repetitive hand and arm motion, eye strain and eye fatigue common to prolonged computer workstation use would be expected.
