Project Electrical Engineer

Role description:

Using your technical capabilities and collaborating with our experienced team of professionals, you will provide technical and design consulting services with a focus on electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding design to support projects for the West Region of our Resilience Water Business Line.

Your base office will be in either Phoenix AZ, Los Angeles CA, or Irvine CA.

You will also manage tasks and oversee the work of junior staff.

The ideal candidate must be performance-driven, possess a strong educational background and must be able to work productively, both independently and as a contributing member of a collaborative team.

Role accountabilities:

  • Electrical design and coordination of various projects simultaneously with an emphasis on medium and low voltage power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding for water/wastewater projects.
  • Development of project/task management skills including support in managing budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.
  • Development of project/task scopes, schedules, and budget for new projects. 
  • Close, highly interactive coordination with our Control Systems group and Process Mechanical group.
  • Establishing design criteria, performing design calculations, developing one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans and specifications.
  • Performing engineering services during construction, including reviewing equipment submittals, shop drawings and responding to contractor RFIs (request for information).
  • Conducting field inspections, overseeing projects in construction which includes identifying deviations from design, performing general QA/QC of completed work, and monitoring safety compliance.
  • Performing system analysis using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software.

    At a minimum, provide engineering responsibility for staff using these software packages to publish a power systems study with arc flash hazard analysis.

  • Travel will be required to support project needs, mainly in the southern California area (approximately 5 to 10% of time).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, preferably with an emphasis on power.
  • 5 years minimum of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to obtain  Professional Registration

Additional Skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Solid working knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Field Instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as they relate to electrical design.
  • Experience using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years or more of relevant work experience
