The position will be 95% remote.

General Overview: The Enterprise Data Architect has accountability for strategic design, data modeling, management and support of the application database landscape and architecture for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations to maximize the effectiveness, availability, and accuracy of data.

An understanding of fundraising and fundraising concepts along with the ability to apply this knowledge to data architecture is fundamental in this role.

The incumbent works collaboratively with business stakeholders to design, implement, and test data-centric applications, data warehouses, and data integration environments.

Areas of focus include a robust medical fundraising data model, grant information integration, modeling for intelligent analytics and data structure to support other reporting needs.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Defines, creates, and implements the strategically aligned data architecture roadmap for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, including short-term, mid-term, and long-term plans and objectives.

Defines and documents the technical architecture of the Division’s databases, data warehouse and BI, including the physical components and their functionality.

Manages SQL Server databases; ensures high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security of the division’s data assets.

Assist developers and data analysts with query tuning and schema refinement.

Defines, documents and manages data security to ensure the Division’s data assets are protected and security configurations are in alignment with applicable internal polices and government regulations.

Provides guidance and integration for BI products and services.

Participates in the delivery of numerous key business objectives, including ease of information access, and regulatory and enterprise reporting.

Works with business and system analysts, business and technical data users, data warehouse and system design developers, ETL developers, and other stakeholders to execute project tasks.

Maintains and enforces best practices to facilitate optimized ETL, transfer of information, data modeling, and warehouse design.

Develops and recommends integration architectures that minimize data redundancy and maximize “use in place” data.

Translates business requirements into technical designs to meet business criteria for successful BI implementations.

Establishes data and architecture standards for all BI initiatives across the Division.

Assists in development and maintenance of standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, storing, cleansing, and transforming data.

Evaluates new data sources for adherence to the organization’s quality standards and ease of integration.

Troubleshoots and resolves performance issues with overall data infrastructure.

Reviews and suggests improvement to the data architecture processes, policies, and vision.

Explores new and emerging technologies and stays current on the capabilities of vendor products.

Coordinates resources needed for the development, integration, administration, and evolution of the data warehouse.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required, Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred 8 years relevant work experience including data architecture and database administration related activities that involved data modeling, data security, requirements and process mapping; data warehouse development and design; data governance, and/or data visualization development.

A combination of education/experience may be considered.

Medical implementation experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience serving as data architect on large complex projects from start to finish.

Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and relational databases including the use of SQL (Structured Query Language) to query databases and extract relevant data.

Expert knowledge of Microsoft SSMS, SSIS, SSRS.

Experience with Tableau Prep Builder or similar data preparation tool for collection, exploration and cleansing of data for use in analytics and reporting.

Experience working in higher education and/or medical fundraising environment preferred.

Advanced understanding of Microsoft SQL database security best practices and implementation.

Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms.

Knowledge of Blackbaud product suite preferred; specifically, BBDW and BBCRM.

Ability to establish goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.

Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
